Ah, Malibu...

Happy Friday! I stopped at Nobu's, a rather posh restaurant in Malibu on the Pacific Coast Highway. Ate an early dinner at the bar, which was fairly crowded.

Patek, Rolex, Brietling, Omega and Panerai were all well represented at the bar. The only person not wearing a fine watch was not wearing a watch at all.

I'd not seen the Patek Aquanaut in person before. Photographs don't do its real life presence justice. A great looking time piece.

The Panerai was worn by a petite Japanese woman, fashionably attired. The watch was thicker then her wrist, but it looked great on her.
I guess Panerai fans with have to find something bigger, since this must now be considered a woman's watch. Just a little humor, that. I've noticed disparaging comments about the Daytona---that it is no longer as desirable a watch for men since women were now wearing it. Nonsense. Just because some women choose to wear a particular watch or drive a certain vehicle doesn't suddenly brand those things as being exclusively women's products.

I am a firm believer in wearing what you like, what suits your taste and your sense of style. I never would have picked out the Panerai for that lady, but she carried it off nicely...good for her!

Apart from that, the other highlight was a striking blond wearing a black cowboy hat...sorry, couldn't tell you what watch she was wearing. My eyes could not focus on her wrists despite my best efforts.

The Chilean Sea Bass was good, as was the 12 year old Hakushu whiskey..

I held up the Daytona fort with this:

You are forgiven for all levels of distraction in Malibu

Awesome.

Is Geoffrey's still there in Malibu?

When I used to work in the motion picture industry I used to get Geoffrey's gift certificates for free dinners

Those were the days...

Yes, Geoffrey's is still there...

I've yet to eat there, but intend to pay it a visit soon...

The food isn't bad and not amazing either. But it is the overall experience that makes it worth dining there at least once. The clientele is what makes it special. I don't have that level of money or power pouring out of my (bleep, bleep); the crowd that goes there though does... so pulling up to valet with anything less than a rare Ferrari or other exotic, and Amex Black Card, can definitely make one feel a bit intimidated. But again, it's a great experience.

Thanks. Had to do it discreetly, lest I'd look like a total dork.
