I think I may have spotted the watch you are talking about. Price looks good and the service history is a great bonus. Its just a matter of whether you mind the service dial. There are quite a few vintage Explorers for sale for 2 or 3 times that price.

To me, the value in a 5500 Explorer is originality. While an RSC nod is nice to have, the service dial kills it for me. If you absolutely have to have a 5500 Exp and you're going to wear it, then it might be something to consider. The issue with a 5500 Explorer is that it shares the reference with the Air King. Swap out the dials and the value jumps. Scammers do this and finding an original and verified 5500 Explorer is becoming a rare thing.
Most of us can't even agree how long they were made. Some folks claim they were made into the early 80s. I don't think so however. If you're after a vintage explorer, a 1016 is a better buy. Easier for the experts to verify.

Actually I think a 5500 Explorer that has been verified as legit by an RSC is pretty cool, even if it has a service dial. Obviously an original dial would be even better, but the price seems about right. You could easily get a 114270 for the same price, though. Let us know if you decide to snag it.

nice explorer :-) I'd wait to find an original dialed one or imo better to find a 1016 gilt dial if you like the originality and history. Luck, M
