The perfectly formed 14270 Explorer

For a long time I have ignored the perfectly formed 14270, not intentionally, I just always seemed to be looking at something else. Recently I have discovered the 36mm Explorer. I think it is beautiful. It can be had for a fraction of the price of many other sports models, it can be bought for less than many inferior marques and it wears superbly under a cuff with a suit. Strongly thinking of picking one up.

A late, great classic, though I would (and did) go for the very last of the 36mm line, the 114270, with the upgraded movement.

+1

After my first acquisition (Sub C ND), the 114270 would not stop singing at me, one year later and it is now taking up more wrist time than the sub.

Timeless, understated classic.

Me too - but that was three months ago and acted upon the urge...will never be sorry. I did go for the 114270

The 36mm Explorer was my first Rolex. I sold becasue after I got my Sea Dweller it just became too small. I would consider a 39mm Explorer!

I do miss the understated elegance of the Explorer.

The Explorer is the purist Rolex of them all but I strongly suggest you compare the 36mm and the 39mm before pulling the trigger.

I fully intended to buy a 36mm early in the year but opted for the 39mm as it just looked better.

Regards

Mick

The perfectly formed 14270 Explorer

Not easy to find...around $4k for nice examples last time I looked. Referring to the 36mm version.

I have a 1016 and a 14270...the 39mm version doesn't do much for me, but I love the 36mm versions. as someone mentioned in a post a year or so ago, one benefit of the 14270 over the 114270 is the ability to fit a jubilee bracelet to it, just to change things up a bit. I find it to be the only rolex that looks equally good on an oyster, jubilee, nato, and leather strap.

That was my plan too but these have been creeping up in price steadily over the last year or two

I love my 36mm 114270 Explorer. It easily adapts to a wide variety of situations, from tool watch to dress watch and back again. Consequently my Explorer gets tons of wrist time. Without a doubt, it was money well spent. IMHO, the proportions of 39mm version are a bit odd so I would definitely recommend the classic design of 36mm (plus it wears larger than it actually is).
