What dial can I fit to a 16800?
Hi,
I've got a 1980s 16800 (3035 movement) with a non-rolex dial which I assume was used to replace an old original dial when it was refurbished some time ago. Thing is I want to replace the dial with an original rolex dial but am not sure which one I can use. There are a few submariner dials on ebay but for the later 16610 model. Are these able to fit my model or must I use an original 16800 dial which appear to be VERY expensive!! Any guidance on this would be appreciated and save me a lot of cash to boot.... Growla |

Well, it changed to the glossy dial about 1985, so if your Sub Date is before this time, go for the matte dial to get it correct.

What a shame that somebody would put a non-Rolex dial on a Sub..
Since that model is recent enough and came with a gloss dial, you may have very good results by sending it in to the RSC for a service. They will take any non-Rolex parts off and replace them with proper Luminova service replacements, although probably not the matte version.. Hmmm, they would probably want to replace the hands too Your Sub should then be ready for another 20+ years of service.. Of course, if you want the tritium dial then your options are more limited..
