My first sub.......
All,
Wanted to share my thoughts after a month of owning my first sub, a 114060. This isn't my first Rolex, I have a Datejust II but have always admired the sports models and was debating between the Explorer, DSSD, GMT and Sub for a fair while. How did I make my decision? Ok - GMT was the first off the list as the DJII had PCLs and I wasn't keen on the busy bezel, explorer was next off as I really wanted a ceramic bezel. That left the DSSD and the Sub. I already own 2 44mm divers (a Steelfish and PAM11) which are similar in size to the DSSD and felt I couldn't wear the DSSD under a shirt so that that left the Sub which gave me flexibility between a casual and work watch. I preferred the clean look of a ND so hence I now own the 114060. Overall feeling after a few weeks. To be honest, it has taken me a while to love it. I initial thought it was too small which has been one of the reasons why I haven't pulled the trigger previously. 40mm is the smallest watch in my collection. However it only feels too small when wearing a short sleeve shirt. Perhaps it is because I am a big guy (6ft2 and 220lbs) and the Sub looks a little lost ? However when wearing long sleeve it just looks fantastic. I think the secret sauce behind the Sub is how the whole watch just looks right. I think that is true of all great design - its just works and is greater that the sum of the parts. It is also a great watch for me as I travel with work, so can take one watch which works in both formal and informal settings So overall - delighted to add it to my collection (detailed in my signature) as it fits well with the other watches I have. Only 2 spaces left in my watch box now - will be filled by a IWC Portuguese 7 Day and Omega Dark Side of the Moon eventually.

Congrats on the SubC.
I am enjoying mine everyday from last week since I got it. Coming from a Panerai fan myself, 114060 , simplicity at its best. |

Congratulations, can't ever go wrong with any variation of the Submariner!

I just traded in my PAM 000 for a brand new 114060. I have always wanted one and cant wait for it to get here. Had my PAM for about 3 years.. got a little bored with it.

Nice choice, and I like reading your thought process on a final selection, although your should not discount the Explorer.
The clean look of a Sub is a big attraction, much like the Explorer, along with rugged, versatile and the new bracelet and clasp. Much about the ceramic bezel, mine is a 14060m, which I love and will live with, but the new models certainly have nice upgrades. Enjoy it!

At first I am interested in Datejust. After reading a lot on this favorable Submariners, I became interested in these watches. Want to find out more, before committing myself for a new or used Sub..
Anyone here, has any advice for me to read on the previous series of Sub watches? I just knew about 116610LV/LN, 16610, 114060. What are the other models..? Thank you :) |
