YG Rolex Daytona White Gold Zenith Movt or PP Nautilus Blue Face - HELP!

Hey Team,

Long time listener first time poster... looking at these two. LOVE the durability and 'look at me' factor of the Rolex and PP has always been my grail-ish watch.. so stuck in a dilemma.. if you could only get 1.. what would it be and why?

Could potentially swing both.. but don't REALLY want to!

Help!

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Patek.
I had a Nautilus but sold it for fear of scratching the freshly polished bezel. Scratch-magnet aside, the Nautilus is a supremely comfortable watch. The bracelet construction is very high grade and doesn't look like an afterthought the way that the Oyster bracelet looks on the Daytona.
I happen to think very highly of the 4130 movement, but the 4030 Zenith movement is an antique modified from its original design (which frightens me a bit). And while I personally believe the 4130 is view-worthy, it's nice to glance at the movement of the Nautilus (5xxx series not 3xxx series).
I hold Patek Philippe in the highest regard in terms of quality, although today they have closer competition than they did 30 years ago when I started collecting. It is far less conspicuous than a Daytona, but has incredible presence to its wearer and to those "in the know."
Owners of the 5711 blue dial wax poetic about its magical everchanging blue dial. Taste is subjective but I am not a fan of the white dial Nautilus, which I call the "garage door." This was reinforced when I tried to appreciate it in person.
Sadly, few blue dial Nautilus 5711's are available at retailers to play with. Just check the Patek Philippe thread to read the adulation for the 5711 blue dial.

I would get both. But to make it financially easier how about the ceramic chocolate dial Daytona on a strap.

Thanks for the reply Bryan.

Wow.. its interesting to hear thats why u got rid of your Patek.. thats why im looking at trading in my AP Dual Time.. SO damn scraed of scratching the face! I've gone a year without doing it.. but im SO scared it'll happen at some point and ill be pissed!

In terms of Rolex vs Patek.. PP will always hold a higher position to me and WIS... but I work in a sales job out of Texas where MOST of my clientele wont know what a PP is... (High end Diamonds/Gemstones) but ALL will recognise a YG Daytona.. so the status part def. has something to do with it. I am however only 28 and part of me thinks some of them might think its fake.. although most think im closer to 35 so might not be a problem.

I like what you bought up about the Movt... I actually like the fact that its Zenith move as I think its more interesting.. are servicing costs HIGHER on a Zenith movt? I understand the newer movt is more advanced but theres something poetic about having a discontinued model (and its about $10k less in price)

Im still quite torn.. any and all opinions very apprecaited.. cheers!

I hope someone who knows will chime in. I don't know if Rolex just charges so much it covers both? Or if they charge extra because the Zenith is more complicated in its construction?
Nothing wrong with a Zenith motor in a Rolex case I guess.
Then again, how desirable is a Ferrari with a Chevy big block motor?

Not really comparable watches, but I would vote for either the YG Daytona or the nautilus. Then you just have to decide if you want gold or steel

Can't lose. I would prefer the in-house movement over the zenith in the Daytona, but that is personal preference. Re Nautilus, I don't like the white dial myself, but the blue dial is a winner.

Haha big coin flip!

Im leaning towards the Rolex now.. I can always get a Patek down the road.. and its less coin than the PP!

I'mma check out a AD in New Orleans tomorrow and see if I like the YG Daytona on.. and the weight.. stay tuned!

Anymore opinions are welcome :)

YG Rolex Daytona White Gold Zenith Movt or PP Nautilus Blue Face - HELP!

Good question, Rolex but the PP is a great choice too.

An argument could be had for PP winning over Rolex everytime as well though?

So torn!

Also.. heres something else to consider.. I work in high end watch/diamond sales at Sea on a cruise ship... will a Yellow Gold Daytona help or hinder perception? I know the Patek will be more under the radar.. but if it will assist?

Agree, when I wanted one it was a PP or Daytona 6263.

At the end of the day I wasn't able to convince myself to purchase at 47k SS Nautilus, so I got the Daytona and 2 other Rolexes.

As everyone knows, I love gold. However, this line trumps gold for me.

In terms of quality and prestige, perhaps not. The obscure angle I was shooting at is that both are superb functioning motors despite their ages and the advancements made since their introductions.
In the movement or motor world, those two are antiques!

Hi All,

SO went to the AD today and tried on the RG Skydweller... WOW!! Talk about PRESENCE!! That things super nice.. and after wearing that the daytona YG looked and felt like a Toy! So Now I think im gonna go RG Skydweller for now.. then get the PP Nautilus in 12-18months time and stick with that

RG Skydweller Formal/Dress
PP Nautilus everyday/water
Breitling LTD Edition Blue Face 3rd SS Watch

Thoughts? Anything else in Rolex that has THAT much presence??
