GMT Master 16750

Quick question folks,
I have a beautiful matt dial GMT master which, as the watch is 31 yrs old, lost it's lume. I've searched the web and noticed that Rolex can change the dial and hands but replace it with the white gold surrounds version. Is it possible to get a matt dial with superluminova?

No you can not. The service dials have the white gold markers for the GMT 16750.

As long as your dial has just lost its lume and is not severely damaged, Do Not! I repeat, Do Not! replace it with a service dial. My 16750 is first year of manufacture 1980 and the greatest thing about it is the matte dial without the white gold surrounds. To me, the wg surrounds detract from it being the tool watch that it is.

My 16750 is 31 too, and I wouldn't touch the dial for anything. Redoing the dial will change the whole look of the watch.

If you really don't like the way the dial looks, you could probably sell your original 16750 and then buy a re-done one with the proceeds, leaving a few grand in your pocket for the next purchase.

Find a 16750 SL WG surrounds dial in the wild with Luminova hand set.

Have a nice watchmaker remove your original dial and hands and safely put them away for storage for the next owner or yourself once you get to where it is not priority that it glow...:-)....then install the luminova service dial and handset...and maybe even have him service the watch at the same time and give a pressure test with new gaskets.

If you ever decide to sell it....you can show the original dial and handset as part of the package...the new owner can do what they like...or you can have them swapped out and sell the watch as it originally came and the service parts separately to someone who is looking to do what you want to do today :-)

I think this is the best solution. You will get a watch that is functional in a way that is important to you while preserving the original parts for future use.

If you no longer want a vintage watch because the lume is not functioning, you will lose the value of the watch by changing the dial and hands.

Sell your watch to somebody who desires a watch that is original and get yourself a more modern watch with modern lume, or find a watch that has already been modified with a later dial..

Don't ruin another hard to find, and getting more rare by the year, original dial, watch for future collectors and enthusiasts ..

I much prefer the Matte dials. If you do, don't change it!

Keep the matte dial; 16750's with those dials are harder to find.

No matte here. I like both dials...circa 1982.

Hello, I've decided to leave the watch original. It looks better without the white surrounds. cheers Gary
