Should I swap out the dial in my 1601

Hey guys in a bit of a dilemma. I have a 1601 with a nice oyster band but im not digging the champagne dial. I did source a roman numeral dial all original according to the seller. Do you think I should swap out or keep. Also any feedback on the dial will be much appreciated

I think you should do whatever makes YOU happy.

I see no problem swapping a dial for one that you like more as long as the original is saved in case you would like to sell in the future.

Btw i like the Roman numeral dial more too

Whichever you like better is the dial you should use. It will be an easy swap for any competent watchmaker and shouldn't cost much at all.

On another note, can you post another clear/crisp close-up of the roman dial?

Could just be the lighting/angle, but "just" looks a little too thick, as does tswisst. Again very possible it's just angle or pixelation. And if seller is solid, probably nothing to worry about.

I'd keep the original dial!

Also that other dial looks weird to me. Look at the date window... Could be a reprinted dial...

Swap the dial, just perhaps not for that one... your DJ looks good on the TT Oyster, a dark color dial would be striking.

Nothing wrong with using this one but if you paid for original you might want to check out this thread. Pay attention to the minute track around the dial.

That's one of my favorite dials, and the champagne is a classic but one of my least favorite. I've got an older DJ w/champagne and would this swap in a minute. Do save the champagne dial, though.

The seller says it all original. Maybe there are different variants of the buckley dial.

Should I swap out the dial in my 1601

There were big Romans made without the ring; as I understand it, only the big Romans with the ring are actually considered "Buckley". The lack of ring doesn't bother me; the apparently uneven thickness of the font is what I keep noticing. Again, it could just be pic angles.

Spare DJ dials are pretty easy to come by, you can always find another if this one doesn't pan out (pie pan pun intended;)).

Thanks for the info. I also noticed the uneveness of the font. The roman numerals look pretty good. I also like the crown. Its a tough call to be honest. I have seen a few romans for sale for the 1603 and actually all of them have been either refinished or in rough shape. This is the closest. Well if its is a dud then its my luck. Thank God I'm better at other things in life lol. My other concern is my champagne date wheel. Just noticed that.

Don't like the dial on the bottom... missing the chapter ring and paint looks thick around the date window and edge of dial.

Does a respray or touched up dial make it worthless?
