Rolex President gold stamps/markings

My question is What determines the stamping for gold day dates on the back of the lugs. I have seen many different images of rolex day dates and some have one stamp that says "18k". Some have the "18k" and "750". Some have three marking "18k", "750", and the symbol that looks like a head. What determines how many markings the case gets? is it the model, the year, ..... Thank You
