Was your first Rolex a gift ?

My Rolex was a gift from my father, (he's now 73) and even though I have been blessed enough to be able to buy myself a Rolex now, I can't fathom replacing the one I have, that was from him.......if I ever replace it, it would be only replaced by another Rolex....;) love that, Plat. YM !!!!!

My wife's was a present from me ;)

Just curious as to how many of you got you first Rolex as a gift.....

You're so lucky, Pal. You already have a GMT II-C in 19.

I am lucky but it took to much of patience and dedication to save the money it was quite hard and it taught me a lesson that nothing is easy obtainable in this life

My first Rolex (SD) It was a gift for myself for 2008, :

In 2008 - I will:

- Turn 40 (not quite there yet)
- Celebrate my son's 1st birthday
- Celebrate 20 years working for the same company - Maybe they should buy me a Rolex!!

My parents bought me a SS Sub at Bucherer, Lucerne for my 21st birthday. That was in 1974. At the time I never understood why "Submariner" was embossed in red while later versions I saw were always white. It was only last year that a friend of mine pointed out that the Red Sub was something special. I still wear it everyday. Always will.

Yup, my TT DJ was a graduation gift from my parents when I completed my doctorate. I got my SD a year later and the DJ only gets wrist time once every 2-4 weeks.

My parents orginally got me the DJ as a wedding present. I raised my, shall we say, erratic dating history at the time to my mother and ever the realist, she revised her plans. I did, however, finally wear it on my wedding day.

Two...

I have two Rolexes present. One from my Grandpa (Perpetual -Date- 1500 circa 1947) and one from my Oldman (Date Just 16233). And yes I still wear 'em daily.

Yes, a 1680 from my parents in 1978. Sadly traded up for another Rolex in 1986.

I got my first Rolex at the age of 18. (I am still 18.) I got it as a high school graduation present. It was given to me from my Dad, and my Grandfather gave it to my Dad for his high school graduation. I plan on giving it to my son for his graduation.

I've had three women give me watches in my life. Two ex wife's and one girlfriend, although none of them were a Rolex. All three women are gone, but I still have one watch left. A 18k Movado Sapphire. I still wear it when I have to go out in a tux. It is super thin! Like all good watches, it has it's place on my wrist when appropriate. My Rolex was a gift to myself, a long overdue and anticipated gift!

No, I bought my 1st and every other Rolex with my own money.
But sometimes with the help of the bank.

My wife gave me my GMT Master II ("Fat Lady") in 1986 for my fortieth birthday.

At that time (and still true today), we did not have the discretionary income to justify a Rolex.
So, unknown to me, my wife drove school bus for a year to earn the money.

I later reciprocated by getting her a Rolex when we received a small inheritance.

I recently had my watch restored by Ted at Skeie's Jewelers (an AD) in Eugene, Oregon, and it looks and runs as well as it did in 1986.
I also sent my wife's watch to Skeie's for restoration, and they just called a few minutes ago to tell me they would ship my wife's watch today.

X2, but fortunately I did not need that bank's assistance with any of my 4.
