Red Sub MKIV dial 3.6XXX serial #

I'm considering a red sub from a seller who I believe is very knowledgeable and well respected, but what he's saying seems to contradict other information. He has a very nice red sub MK IV dial w/serial # 3.6XXX. I questioned the year for that dial, and he said Rolex didn't start using closed 6's on any models except chrono's until late 70's. He said the early knock-offs for red subs featured the closed 6's. Thoughts?

the closed 6's for knock off is very old thinking , suggest he's an old school dealer ...

the write ups on red subs really should be taken as guidelinss...not rules ...which is the mistake people make , just because someone writes a rough tutorial on the internet doesn't make it hard and fast ..and nearly always they put a caveat to say this which people ignore.

if i found a 3.6 with a mk4 , and it was from a source close to the original owners i'd have no problem with it ...if it was a watch that had circled the trade i'd wonder if the dial had been married to the case....

all depends on background and history as to whether you can sleep well with that combo .....usual ..

is it possible...yes of course
is it likely ...maybe at a push
is it probable ...no.

+1

With a serial of 3.6 mil, I would feel safer with a MK 5 or MK 6 dial....
