Opinion Please: 1973 GMT

Hi Everyone,

Vintage watches seldom come available locally in my part of the world. This is a circa 1973 GMT with a serial number starting with 3,5xx,xxx. No box, papers or recent servicing. Asking price is over $6000 CDN. From my untrained eye, it looks like a service insert and the wheel dial doesn't have open sixes so I assume that it is not original. Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Appears the 24-hand may have been redone, it either has a bubble or perhaps some discoloration. The second picture (dark one) shows issues with the hour plots and hands... I think it is better if you could post better pictures for a better assessment.

A lot of money and too much polish? In these pics lugs look rounded off with at least one springbar poking out...

Thank you for your valuable feedback. Can anyone confirm that this 1675 GMT has a service insert and a service date wheel?

Service insert and the case is a bit over polished as stated above.

I wouldn't bet on the date wheel. Mine (2.3m, ca. 1969) has closed numbers and AFAIK the date wheel has never been changed. If so during service, I was not told nor charged for it.

1969, would have the hooked seven on the top left side - at least based on my experience. Numerals are a fatter font and the "6 and 9" are closed.

Having a replaced date wheel really isn't a major deal breaker for me since many are replaced during service.

It's not a deal-breaker for me either since I'll never sell this watch, but I hear varying accounts as to what's right or wrong and I find it interesting. I think I'm right that the date wheel in my GMT is the original. Here's a photo while out during a recent service.

Not much in Toronto either. But I would pass on that - not enough patina and couple of parts replaced with service items.

The crown guards look thick. The spring bars might be a wrong size for the watch. Not overpolished in my opinion just bc of the underside pics. Band looks tighter than average.
