Towards a PP 5990 - A Plan?
What do you think of this idea…
I have a number of watches but the ones of relevance for this discussion include my PP5164, PP5712 and Panerai PAM 311 (titanium 8 day GMT/Chronograph). I really like the new PP 5990. For me a date, GMT/Chrono are my three most useful complications. I really like the way the PP5164 dual time works. I just got the two PPs this year. I also like my PP5712. I do not buy watches with a plan to sell them… but I would love to get the 5990…. well I am thinking that I could sell the PP 5164 and PAM 311 (don't wear it as often as my other pieces) and that with some cash might get me there… assuming I can get a deal. Since these are only recently released not sure if deals are possible as of yet. Any thoughts ?? |

Trade the 5164 and the 311 plus cash to DavidSW for the new 5990 he has in the FS forum. Then you have the GMT & chrono in one watch. Moon phase in the other.

Good plan and agree. As for deals that is between customer and relationship with AD and everyone different.

Well thanks for the advice. I sent David an email. In general, I think that I would likely be better off selling myself but will see what he comes back with. I also emailed my AD to see about availability etc.
I don't want to give up my AP ROO. I really like that watch. The one i am a bit disappointed with is the VC Overseas Chrono. Not really sure why. Works and feels great.. just not the Mojo I had expected.. |

I'm a huge fan of the 5990, but also really like your 5712 and 5164. Maybe get rid of the 311 and save toward the 5990? I guess that will leave you with 2 travel times, but they are both great watches

Neil I plan on keeping the 5712.
Mike I just think the 5990 and 5164 would be too redundant?? |

I agree with you, even though the 5164A is a great watch...having it and the 5990/1A wouldn't make sense IMHO. I like your plan personally and hopefully you can work something out with David.

I disagree... I'd keep the 5164 and get the 5990 also.

x2.
I'd go this route, as the Aqua and nautilus are different enough. This provides more diversify than two nautilus references.

I spent my watch allotment for the year… Wait… in 6.5 hrs 2015 here in CA…
Seriously though i have not seen one of these in person and while looking at the photos -- I have concerns the chrono minute dial is going to be too small for me to read without my glasses. How does the dial size -- readability compare with some of the other PP chronos? I can barely read the date dial on the 5164 but over time, I pretty much know the position of each day/date. |

I also like the plan, as I do quite like the 5990 and I would trade the 5164 towards it.
