RG sports battle --- AP ROO vs new YM
Between the AP ROO and new YM, which do you choose?
Both are rose gold. Both have black ceramic inserts. Both are on black rubber straps. Both have red accents. Both have date functions. ROO has AP finishing, chrono function, brushed case, 44 mm wide and thick, 2/3 more cost. YM has Rolex robustness, diver function, polished case, 40 mm wide and thin, 1/3 less cost. And a couple of pix from the internets: |

AP ROO wins that one hands down in my opinion.

No brainer – even if they were the same price, it would be the YM for me. The ROO is a bit too big and the Chronograph is wasted on me. Also, I believe the YM design will stand the test of time better.

UI have to go with the new YM but I am biased since I have never been much of an AP fan.

I find the AP dial far too busy. YM for me though in truth I wouldn't buy either.

FWIW, since i've seen quite a few posts saying the new RG YM looks like a hublot, I frankly don't see the resemblance at all (not meant to diss the Hublot, just saying the two watches are very different).....

I dont like either so I guess I am easy to answer, I prefer the quality of the AP and own a RO, but I personally don't like the size and shape of that watch (note i did not post this on the AP forum) so I voted the rolex, but I don't want one any time soon. As for the Hublot, I am afraid they look very similar to me, FYI nearly every brand make this type of colour/band combo these days, even Tissot make one..... i better be quiet now.

Loving that YM.
The more I look at it, the more I like it. That wrist shot is fantastic.

I wish Rolex left the numbers on the bezel in RG.

AP for me. I think the YM will grow on me the more I see it but I've always loved the RG Novelty.

The new YM is growing one and I prefer it to the AP. I think the better comparison would be a RG BP FF.

I keep coming back to this thread to look at the wrist shot.
Thus watch just makes sense to me. The matte bezel and the RG with the rubber strap really all work well together. The curved lugs and size of the case are awesome. I've been turned off by the YM name in the past. But for this watch, it really suits it. Sporty and, I can't believe I'm saying it, elegant.

Sigh... I had the RG44 sold it because it wore a tad big on my wrist but then recently repurchased it because of the colorway and it was one of those timepieces that looked good dressed down... Looks like it's time for me to sell it again... I've always been a fan of the YM1, this version ticks all the right boxes for me...

The YM just looks like another sub, get the AP. A rubber bracelet is a great way to cheapen a gold watch.

Last year iwc had a gray dial on rg which was amazing. This year they went down in size (which seems to be a consensus among manufactures) and their rg piece has lighter dial so u guess im not comparing apples to apples as far as dark dial on rg w/rubber strap. But honestly I much prefer their offering at the similar price point. And if you ever get sick of rubber you can switch to leather.

I don't know why people are claiming Rolex copied AP, IMO they look nothing alike. There is only so much you can do with gold and black.
Out of the two I would go the Rolex, but out of the Rolex and the Planet Ocean it would be a harder choice. |

I love the deisgn of the Ym but feel it will be a tad too small, these type of watches look best if they are a bit bigger IMHO...
AP ROO for the kill!

For me it most resembles a RG UN I used to have, esp the bezel. It's not really like the ROO and probably more similar to the RG Aquanaut I think. I like it and look forward to trying it on and seeing if the usual overlarge bezel numbers work better in black, but would def wait for prices to come down.

Rolex all day for me simply because the ROO line is too bulky for my taste. If that AP was 40 mm and had an integrated chrono (read not so thick), then reverse that.

I love AP and they do fantastic work. Obviously as a whole the AP wins. However, for me the 44mm AP ROO is just too large.
In this case Rolex wins. |

YM only because I am, and have been always, a Rolex guy. I know, I know... but there it is, out in public for all the world to see!
