Explorer II to Explorer Flip or Not ?
I have a 2003 Black Face Explorer 2 in pristine condition which I am thinking of flipping for a 2011 39mm Explorer - probably do a straight swap.
Good move - yes or no ? |

Only you can decide if it's a good move or not. Unless you need the cash from the Exp II to fund the Exp I, I would keep both for a bit and then determine which one you like best.
If I were in your position and had to pick one or the other, I would probably lean towards the Exp II.

I think the 39 Explorer looks great, if the date and gmt functions from the explorer ii won't be missed... why not.

I'd stick wth the ExpII as I find it to be a more interesting watch. I suspect you may regret the trade especially if you're flipping out of boredom.

Well...all depends on what you want. It's a good move if you like the EXP and have lost the love for the EXP2. It's not a good move if you're just flipping to be flipping...

I think it is a fair trade. I love my 39mm explorer, it's the perfect watch for any occasion. It's light, and the comfort of the new style bracelet and clasp can't be beat. If you won't miss the date, GMT, and jump hour hand too much, go for it!

Personally I would keep the Exp II as I find it a more attractive watch, plus it has the date and GMT complications. Imho the only thing in favour of the Exp would be the (arguably) better clasp.

If the second time zone and date aren't needed and you're tired of the II then why not. If you change your mind down the road it wouldn't be a tough journey to replace it.

It's fair but I wouldn't do it. I think the exp 2 is a far more interesting watch and will greatly appreciate in the next several years. I think you'll find the opposite with the modern explorer

Thanks for the feedback - Im just sitting here looking at the Explorer II face - Its too beautiful to let go of so I’m keeping it.
I will buy an Explorer 39 or a No date Sub (Older style) when I am more flush. |
