Serial and Model Number Engraving Between Lugs

When browsing photos of the FS/FT ads the between-lug engravings on some examples appear to be done by hand, as if to trace over time worn factory engravings. Is this common or am I seeing something that is not so?

Not sure what you are looking at.

Re-tracing the serial is a no-no and should be questioned. There would be no way to know without sonic or acid etching if the original numbers were scratched over or obliterated.

Some of the vintage pieces look somewhat different compared to modern, pre-rehaut serials. But nobody manually did them - they were machine made.

Worn out serial numbers are usually left alone - if you have some pics to share what you saw then it would help.
