Vanilla and Chocolate?

Was pondering this morning, and not just because they are my two watches, whether the SS Sub Date and TT Datejust, jubilee/fluted could be categorized as the Vanilla and Chocolate of the Rolex brand with the other options being variations on those two basic "flavors"... thoughts?

You can call them anything you want. As far as categorizing the brand...umm...no.

not sure but to me, as a term, vanilla doesn't imply anything special - and a rolex is still special to me.

Sometimes I feel bad for the more senior members who have been Rolex fans for ages and now have to see this kind of stuff.

Or alternatively, your sub is a flavor of Turn o Graph and your DJ a flavor of Oyster Perpetual...

So this really went off the rails, mostly because I did not frame my thought in the form a of a good question, and while I should probably just let it go will try again...

In looking at the Rolex line, as with an iconic brand like Hagen Daaz, who's PRIMARY product was Vanilla ice cream upon the success of which the rest of their products (flavors) developed. COULD a parallel be drawn to Rolex in that the PRIMARY product upon which large scale iconic success would later come be their two basic models - The Submariner and Datejust?

Ready... attack!!

Yes you stated what you should do, I should probably just let it go.

So... the primary product would be an OP, from which all other complications were added... i.e. bezel, date, 24hr hand .... the sub and DJ would be flavors of OP, no?

The OP built the house for 20 years before the sub showed up. Add a spinny bezel to an OP and a few tricks to withstand more pressure and shazzam you have a sub. In the end, a sub is merely a glorified OP, yeah?
