1953 Rolex Oyster Brevet 6282
Hi All,
New to this forum. Recently started collecting vintage watches and got my hands on this Rolex. It's a 1953 dated Rolex Oyster Brevet. I believe the hands and hour markers are solid gold... with the bezel in rose gold. I will be getting it appraised to see what its worth on paper... but what is the typical going rate for something like this? Thanks, |

How is it a 1953 watch when the inside of the caseback clearly states 2nd quarter of 1960 - you need to check the serial number of the watch against the listings to see which year it is - esp. If you are buying it as a '53 birth year watch for example.

GGGMT, pics seem to be working here?
Thanks for your response Ken, this is the kind of feedback I'm looking for. The serial number starts with 82xxxx, when I did a search on one of the websites, this is coming up from 1953? The case back may not be the original case back? Got very minimal information from the seller, he actually thought it was from the late 70s. |

Also on the case back it says 6694... on the case itself it says BREVET and then 6282 underneath.

Your serial number can also be early 1960s. Rolex rebooted their numbering system in the mid 1950s. Don't trust most of the websites for serial # info.

So I did a bit more research and it was apparently common for Rolex to not use the same reference number on case + case back in those days.

Judging by the coronet its a 1953 with a replacemwnt CB and what appears to be a refinished dial from my phone.

Beauty. Thanks Greg!
The dial has definitely been cleaned up / repainted. Way too clean :) |

Does the crown and bezel look solid gold too? Might get a jeweler to check.
