"Open papers"

Recently thinking about purchasing a "Z" serial number Sea Dweller, the papers are from authorized Dealer in Hong Kong ( hole punched serial number and country code) but they are not dated and no name written in. Is this something to be concerned about? My theory is the authorized dealer gave the watch to a Grey market dealer to sell.

Your theory is probable.

My Sub was purchased though a grey market dealer(NJ) with undated and signed warrantee card (Italy). I had my doubts because it was my first purchase so I took it to a AD to verify the authenticity. Made a great transaction and saved a ton of money on BNIB.

Good luck!

Yes, the price seems right on this deal. Maybe it's worth it and I shouldn't be so concerned with the open papers. Thanks for the input so far!

No concern as the warranty expired a long time ago.

When did the warranty expire? I thought it starts with the sale of the watch...

I always thought it starts as soon as it leaves the AD.

It starts the day you purchase from Authorize dealer new. This watch is from 2006 being purchased now used. The warranty is long expired, the concern was it not being filled out when original person purchased it. But I think I understand the reason at this point.

I bought my first Rolex from an AD. They left the papers open for a few reasons. One is they had a 30 day return policy. If you decided you didn't like your watch and it was unworn they would take it back. Another was in case you had a problem out of warranty they would back date it.

That was very nice of the AD! That's the way it should be. Most have the "no backsies" attitude!
