Somebody stop me!!!!

Or not......

Story goes like this. Few month back sold my Panerai and an Omega PO. Felt bored with them and it was time for Rolex. So, I got myself an Explorer 2 (new model) and a vintage DJ to wear on a black leather strap.

Now, I feel like getting another watch.....I have the option of selling these 2 or one of them and get a Daytona. This model grew on me. I said that I ll never buy a chrono watch because I pay a lot of money for a function that I ll never use. But now......

What do you guys reckon?! Daytona!?
Or maybe trade the Explorer for a Sub no date?!

Relax...take your time and figure out what you really want. Then figure out if you want it more than what you've got. Otherwise you're just going to be spending a bunch of time and money flipping around.

If you really know what you want, you won't be asking us for advice. Good luck and happy hunting!

Seems like your in a hurry to buy. Don't buy/trade for another Rolex just because you can. If you do this you'll end up trading your next one for another one and on and on. Find something you really want, sleep on it for a bit and then get it

It's funny 'cos I was never like this before the Rolex bug bit me. I usually keep my watches 4-5yrs, now, I feel like trading, selling, buying.

You guys are right. Need to figure out what I want. I do like the watches I have and I enjoy them very much. But I also like the Sub no date and the Daytona.
I always want to have a ss Rolex on metal bracelet for everyday wear and an elegant Rolex on leather strap to wear with a suit.
Having said that the options would be to trade the Explorer for a Sub or a Daytona and keep the vintage DJ.

I don't rush in my decisions, hence the discussion here. I belive many of us felt the same at some point and you jst need the others to share their opinions/experinces.

Most people buy chronos because of the aesthetics of the complication, not because they really need or use it. The Daytona is an all time classic, if it's calling you, go for it!

You beat me to the point.

While the Daytona isn't on my short list, I've seen some two tone models that are absolutely gorgeous. It's a watch that says "yes, it's what you think it is"

Larry is right, this place can make you feel like a kid in a very expensive candy shop so take some time. Give it at least a month or two and if you still desire the Daytona then trade for it.

If you tried on the Daytona and don't need a date...then maybe.

If you are used to the EXP II at 42mm...the Daytona will feel small and underwhelming. Make sure you like in person...looks bigger in pics

Like others have said take your time....there are a million Daytona's out there. There will always be another one if that is the move you want to make.

Good luck

Best advice I've seen in a while. The hunt is fun, so is discussing on a thread. However, i fail to understand why anyone would spend thousands on a watch they were not certain they want. If you have to ask someone else, save your money. You'll know the right one when you see it. Patience.

That is true. Taking time to figure out and decide is a very good advice. Gonna do so and your opinions will help me.

The reality is that I like to have a date and also that I don't need a chrono. But who says that picking a watch is a rational decision? It's a matter of desire and preference. There not much rational thinking in our hobby.

Stop it; you'll only keep trading until you realize it's a losing proposition and you're out of cash to trade with. No sense in limiting yourself to only a couple of Rolexes; better to save up and expand the collection or as others have said wait until you really know what you want.

I will never understand why people come to this forum to ask US what THEY should do. It's not like you're investing in to a mutual fund or the likes. Your wrist. Your money. Your decision.

Haha. That's the beauty of the forum. To share opinions, info....and the beauty of life is that we don't all have to agree!

@Hogwldfltr
That's a good point. Saving up for a 3rd one is wise. But I want to limit myself to 2 watches for now. A daily beater and an elegant Rolex on leather.

For a daily beater I have the Expl 2. IMO this can be easily replaced by a Sub. I'm not sure Daytona can be the daily beater in my case. It's all down to the lack of date. I had a daily beater with date for the last 15 years! The esthetics of it, I love!
I can only consider the Daytona as a daily beater because imo it's no dressy watch. I know many wear it but that wouldn't be me.

Abovedeck, Don't agree with your comment. People sometimes like to get an opinion before they buy certain items. Thats why it is a forum.
If you use your example of its your wrist and your decision, then why do you go on a forum ? as you dont need to talk with anyone. Just buy what you want and no need for conversation !

Yes, take your time and don't flip if you don't have to. Buy the watches that speak to you and hold on to them. If it doesn't truly sing to you, don't buy it no matter how pretty it is.

To answer your question...

I'm on here for the pictures and information. I've never asked this forum what watch I should buy. I've asked for information about watches that I'm interested in buying, but I've never said "I'm thinking about a sub or a GMT. What would you chose?"

Well thats your opinion and that is what this forum is full of: opinions! It's entertaining for everyone to converse about what our opinions are on different pieces, which we like more, etc.

IMHO, the Explorer in your Avatar looks too big on your wrist.

I would steer clear of similarly sized pieces.

Hi,

Explorer is here to stay. Not too big on my wrist, I have a 7.5 inch wrist. I used to have Pam, it was a bit big.
The Explorer 2 looks jst fine at 42mm, although I agree, it wears rather big.

I belive Daytona, Pepsi or a Sub no date are on my radar now. I ll sacrifice the DJ to fund the new addition.
Need to figure out which one of the 3 would compliment my Expl best.

Probably Daytona (ss white dial) offers the best contrast and compliment to your Explorer2 IMO

Or Daytona ss black dial to maintain consistency in dial color with your Explorer 2 yet still has the contrast in a chrono presentation; can't go wrong with either choice really.

That photo makes it look big. In reality, 42 mm is ok for me. The lugs are not sticking outside the wrist.
As I mentioned earlier Explorer wears big. Almost like a 44mm, due to its flat bezel.
