Final suggestions on new Datejust face color
Hi Gentlemen,
New to the forums. Long time lurker. Finally earned my first Rolex and will be going to my local AD to purchase it. I've decided to get the two tone YG Datejust with diamonds. Initially I had decided to go with the white face after looking through the catalogue and only seen the silver and champagne in person. I went and saw the white face at another AD and I didn't 'love' it, as I'm sure many of you may have experienced the same feeling when your mind and real life didn't turn out to how you pictured it. Needless to say, I held off on my purchase so I can give it some more thoughts. After some sleepless nights, I still have not come up with a decision so now I'm here to ask for some opinions, I know the final decision will still be mine. Which color face would you choose assuming this is your very first Rolex and the only watch you have? Silver, white or champagne? Cheers |

Assuming we're talking about datejust 2.
White dial is missing a punch. I would go black dial Arabic or slate dial green roman. No diamonds for me Good luck |

I'm a SS sports watch fan; DJs, PMs or dress watches (Cellini et al) just don't blow my skirt up. Some are gorgeous but they're just not my bag.
However, I was almost tempted recently by a TT DJII, fluted bezel, slate dial with green Roman numerals. Wow. Just wow. Plain and simple wow.

Can't help you, I've got to see them in person, the dial, numerals, bezel and bracelet all work together for me. But lighter over darker is my preference.

Thanks for all your inputs. I should have correctly stated I'll be going for the 36mm Datejust not Datejust II.
Two tone, diamond dial, jubilee bracelet, fluted bezel are all required, just debating on the color of the face. |

I probably wouldn't get any of those but, of the three, I would choose white.
Champagne is from the 70's, silver is difficult to read..

Myself would choose roman white dial and no diamonds.

OK...you don't love the white dial...and I take it from your indecision you're not crazy about the champagne and/or silver dials? So maybe we should take a step back and think this may not be the watch for you.
Perhaps you might want to look at the diamond models in steel and see if anything rings your bell...or even look at the DJ2 offerings. |

Personally, since diamonds are a must for you, while I love a white dial on a DateJust, with diamonds just doesn't not pop at you.
I find the darker dial shades will make them pop more. Of the current ones available, the silver calls more to me. My dad's is on the way back from Rolex with the blue vignette diamond dial, that is two tone black around diamonds, blue towards center. Beautiful dial. I just don't think that is part of current watch lineup. |

I don't know if anybody noticed, but the diamond dials don't have the black rim graphics around it like the non diamond versions: Without the 'black ring', I feel the diamond dials look plain regardless of the shade. Maybe its my conscious thats talking me out of the diamonds... |

I crack up when I read these threads where folks start offering all sorts of suggestions to cover the planet.
Folks, OP is set on diamond dial. boils down to white, gold, silver or grey, period. |

I really like the gold dial with that combo. I also think the gold jubilee dial would look nice.

However, I'm making my purchase based on how I foresee my collection going forward. I know I want to have one solid color pieced (YG president), at least two sport (Hulk and BLNR), and one perfect leather band (IWC Porteguese). Now to fill the 2 tone, I feel the Datejust is perfect for this. I love the jubilee bracelet so much I gave up my initial pick of the DJII. To sum things up, I really appreciate all the input but I'm set on dailing in the dial color with some help from you guys! THANKS |
