possible to fake papers too?

Some regulars here know that I am still looking for that perfect buy for a GMT Pepsi. Recently saw one on ebay (Year 2006)that also had papers, but at an unbelievable price of $2075 -- immediate purchase. The watch seems fine, of course. But can they fake the papers and booklets as well?

Most certainly. I'm not saying that's the case here, but fake papers and booklets are not rare.

Yup. Having box, papers, booklets etc. does not necessarily make the Rolex real.

The paper certificates can be faked. Boxes can, too (or be bought separately) as can the booklets.

The modern Credit Card Certificates (CCC) are much tougher to fake due to "ROLEXROLEX" writing on it being visible under infrared lighting only).

Here the "CCC" as it looks to the naked eye:

Great to see you again Mike! Would you take a look at this thread? Point number 1 against -- he is in Italy, where they have a very strong Rolex market.

On the listing:

"Function & Features: Day & Date, Water Resistant, Alarm"

Well, anyway...

The watch looks fine to me.

BUT as you state, the price is too good to be true for a fairly new and minty GMT II.

The seller's feedback are not impressive.

Pics are a bit small to get any detail, but I don't see anything that jumps screaming fake. The box and paperwork, booklet, etc.. seem correct for the year.

Bo gave a great tip about the feedback. Not much negative there, but when you look at exactly what he has sold, it's all for items between 3 and 10 dollars (including a pack of diapers to a German!). I've heard about those that rack up a big feedback list with crap, then go for the kill. Maybe this is one of those...

Well those are good points. I can't read Italian. Might be a pirated photo.

Well, I think the fact that he sold a 32 pack of Pampers is pretty much sealing the deal now. My search continues...

Paypal offer up to $200 protection on this auction.

That would mean just $2500 lost when the scam unfolds.

Bo, is it infrared or ultraviolet lighting? I thought it should be ultraviolet since this is the standard way to spot fake money or cheques. I don't hear people using infrared lights other than thermo imaging.

Might be ultraviolet. I just seem to recall reading "infrared" on the German watch forum. The member had bought a special light for the purpose.

A brand new one was $5075 6 mos. ago. I would hope a real one would hold its value much better than that...."Pass"
