Hey Guys:

Just saw "The Big Short" because of the historical importance of the corruption of the Wall Street Bankers....

Anyway, one of the main characters is played by Steve Carell.

Prominently displayed on his left wrist is none other than a beautiful Rolex Sub 116610 LN in all it's glory.

I was really disappointed that it didn't get a credit at the end of the movie....

PSS: As an under-dog investor, I proudly wore my Tudor Black Bay Black to the screening...

I saw the Black Bays for the first time in early December. They are some fine looking watches that pictures just cannot do justice.

Few things I noticed after watching the movie. The submariner that Steve was wearing was first produced in 2010 right? And the IWC deployant clasp that Ryan Gosling was wearing while presenting the Jenga scene was also from 2010 or later? But the movie was supposed to be happening from 2007-2008 was it not? Just a couple observations but the movie is awesome.

Just saw a re-run of Hot Shots 2 over Xmas and noticed that the commando guys in the beginning of the movie look at Pepsi GMT Masters when "synchronizing" the time...

I've always associated the SS Daytona with Wall Street fraud and excess. I recall a gold one is featured prominently on the poster for Wolf of Wall Street.

Wall Street Money Never Sleeps lightly hit on the housing crisis, GG made his come back betting against it. Sorry if that's a spoiler but if you haven't seen it by now... There are some good watches in that movie as one would expect, Shia LaBeouf is wearing a really nice IWC. Certainly there's more than a couple Rolexes in that movie, haven't seen it in a long time to be more specific.

There was (is) a member here "in the biz" who recently stated that every high-end watch in films is a replica.

And why wouldn't they be? What prop master is going to fret over a $7,000 watch when one costing $100 would do the job?

I know this is true and it doesn't decrease my enjoyment at spotting them one bit. :)

I would think they would go after people who do this.

There is no bad press. If I'm making Hilo watches and some movie wants to show off Hilo watches then, fake or not, I'm thrilled. There is no bad press.

Product placement watches are the exception, not the rule. Unless the watch logo can be read, there's no trademark issues, either. And prop guys do use fakes all the time. The guns usually shoot blanks, too.
