Going Grey Market for SS White Dial Daytona
I am having a very strong feeling that my ADs want me to spend minimum of $6-7K in next 3 mths or the SS white Daytona will never come a reality.
At the old msrp of $7.9K it's worth the wait but at $9.2K + 760.00 tax, the wait and additional cash put out isn't worth it...to me. The 2 yrs warranty for buying from the AD would be miss though. Any1 feel same as I do? |

Been there, done that three times (bought them all pre-owned) until I actually got the call this May from a local AD for one at MSRP. You can buy some LNIB Z and M serial examples in the $10k range, which is not much more than MSRP plus sales tax. I say go for it. Enjoy it now and not have to wait.

Oh and as for the warranty, it is technically not transferrable for US sourced Rolex watches, but the "gift" rule works if you need warranty work done. Trust me, it works :) I went through it before.

Well........it's all about the numbers...
If you need to spend 6 or 7k in an AD to get a Daytona at MSRP, then you have perhaps 16k total and two or three nice watches.... Or, you could go gray and spend 12.5k, and have one watch and 3k in your pocket... spend that on an Omega and you have only 2 watches... only 1 of which is a Rolex..

I know what you can do...tell them you'll buy the any one of these...GMTc, GMTII M pepsi/coke, or black Milgauss(anyone thats holding value now) if they promise to get you a SS daytona @ list in 3months. So buy it one of those then flip it at a tiny or no loss and wait for your Daytona at list. Or Tell them you'll buy both at the same time when the SS daytona comes in. This way you've spent money but got it back and get a SS daytona at list. |

Paying a premium is not a big deal to me. If you really want one, get it.

I will forever patiently wait.
I too have been waiting for years to get a SS Daytona White dial. I REFUSE to buy it used or over MSRP. The only reason I want one is to be able to say, I finally got the call and bought it at MSRP. Anyone can get one used or over MSRP, not everyone is lucky enough to buy it at retail. I'm the perfect example lol. |

I have said this before, but if you need to spend many $thousands to "earn" the loyalty of the AD to go on the list, then just buy some stock in a blue-chip company with the money instead, sit back and wait a couple of years, then sell he stock at a profit and use the extra money to buy grey!!!

I'm running into the same problem right now. And I have bought my Z dial sub, a 18k WG datejust for my fiance, and another watch my fiance bought for me all three since this past february, so 5 months.
My AD called me today after buying the datejust on Saturday and said he could get me a black face tomorrow if I would either buy the pearls my fiance was looking at or the Cartier Pasha I tried on. He said the white face may take a little more. I told him I would rather pay 12K for white face which is the one I want, than drop 20K just to have the one I really wanted and then another watch I just kind of liked or another set of pearls my girl won't wear but a few times a year. It blows my mind that you have a young couple(both of us are 25) in the store spending nearly 15K in the 2 trips we have made to the store, (it's down near our condo in florida so we just vacation there). And they don't try to keep my business, since I love the service they have given me up to this point. But I will be buying watches for at least another 40 years I hope, I would think they would see the positives. I'm just going to keep asking around or end up buying on the gray market it seems. |

Welcome to the forum VetteGuy. It seems like that guy lacks tact. Waving a daytona in your face like a carrot. I guess you now know what kind of a guy he really is.

I must say it is rather degrading to hear an AD say that they use their SS Daytonas as "rewards" for their good customers. Do I have to earn a reward? What am I, a golden retriever?
It's a mistake to do business with these people. [Sorry if this post is off topic.] Quote:

Wow, VetteGuy, your AD sounds like a real jerk. I would drop him like a ton a bricks. MikeV is right on...
Do your homework and go grey, the price is really not much more than MSRP plus sales tax these days.

I would take my business elsewhere.

Wrong !!!
If it's real, they'll work on it. Once you're out of the warranty period, there is really no difference. You pay to get a real watch repaired or refurbished no matter where you bought it. I think you should go GM if you can't wait. Pick a good one and have no worries. ADs can do whatever they wish. I think the rewarding of good customers makes sense. There are tactful ways of conveying it, like cheerfully putting them on the non-existent waiting list. |

Well. I dont understand it but just got two SS (one white and one black) in the last 45 days from AD at MSRP. The second one is going to Steven79 (arrived today). There seems to be a supply all of a sudden which Im sure is short lived but if another opportunity comes up I will purchase and pass it on to someone here at TRF.

It's becoming quite clear that Rolex USA likes Georgia and Florida better than the rest of us.
In Los Angeles, you can't find a decent AD to work with. We have been turned over to chains like Ben Bridge, &c. Quote:

Yep, S Cal is the "big bucks" market so your allocation goes faster than Georgia.

Yes, we're all swimming in the "big bucks" here, Mr Hat. (Do you mind if I call you "Big"?) As I type this very message, I am sitting on a stack of gold bullion. And I don't mind sharing with you that is makes me feel all tingly and special.
