New Rado for the wife - automatic or quartz?
I think I'm letting my own prejudices get the best of me here.
My wife is dropping hints about a new Rado for her birthday in November and I can't help going back to the automatic versions while I know my wife isn't in the least bit bothered what the movement is. At the moment she's got a Sunray R20862162 men's watch as she likes to wear it looking like a bangle. She's said she likes pretty much all their bangle style watches and isn't really giving me much more guidance. The most I can get out of her is that she likes them to have a completely straight edge to the bracelet and head, so no flaring out and narrow clasps, and that she prefers the men's sized ones. The R20784172 is not far from her current watch, but silver instead of gold. The R20790762 caught her eye, but it's smaller. The R20853152 really appeals to me due to the automatic movement. Finally there's the R20749112 which is the same as her existing watch, but in a different colour scheme. Because she's not bothered by the movement, and not helping that much regarding the model, should I just indulge my own beliefs and go with the automatic, or should I just go for the one that might just be a fraction more her style? I'd love to get her a Cerix R25474712, but they're a bit too rich for me to consider at the moment, especially when they're not exactly a new watch and an NOS condition one commands a premium. I know these things are all just a matter of taste, but it's the basic idea of buying for her but suiting my ideas as well that I'm having a problem with. |

Go for something that she likes not something that you think she should / would like. A quartz is better if she takes her watch off for a few days, if she will wear it every day get an automatic.
Go try wife a date just and I have to set it and wind it for her almost once every week. Its not ideal but she loves her date just |

New Rado for the wife - automatic or quartz?
The tough part that you've got to remember is that it is for her, so try to keep her wants and likes ahead of yours. I went through the same thing last year and "settled" on a Quartz Cartier Tank for my wife. I totally wanted her to get a nice automatic watch but she wanted a watch she could wear or not wear for days at a time. Watches are so personal and if the roles were reversed, you'd want her to go by your preferences. In the end, it is for her and should make her happy

Thanks for all the advice so far guys, it's helping I promise.
I guess I should have mentioned that she has a double watch winder already, so not being worn is less of an issue to her. |
