New Addition Explorer II

Just picked up this new-to-me Explorer II (MK2, 5.4 mil.) in near mint condition, on original "B" stamped bracelet from '76-'77 with no stretch. These nice examples of any vintage Rolex sports references are becoming so scarce that it doesn't surprise me that the prices are climbing across the board. I've had a 1655 in the past and sold it, regrettably. Paid more this time (of course), but very happy to have it back on my wrist. Such a unique reference, and I think it screams 1970s more than any other Rolex.

What a fantastic example! So hard to find in that condition. Huge congrats and hopefully you'll never let this one go.

That is a beauty! Nice find. And you're so right, it is definitely very 70's in great way.

welcome back to the 1655 world...from your OT, one can sense that you never quite left it.

still have my MkI/straight second-hand...along with fading glimpses of the mid-70s through 1980s.

Absolutely. The 1655 is a real oddball reference for Rolex. When I first picked one up and inspected it closely years ago something about it sang out Tudor to me. I have always wondered whether this design was Rolex trying to be more contemporary but might have actually started life as a concept initially envisaged to sit alongside the Snowflake and Monte Carlo Tudors where it seems to fit quite well as a look.
