Hi all,

Last year I had my trusty Datejust serviced for the first time as it had become almost impossible to wind the date on.

It never really kept particularly good time but Harrods, where my parents bought it from, told me in '92 that it was 'within tollerance' so it stayed on my wrist for over 20 years and it went everywhere with me.

After so long, I didn't think having the old boy serviced was too unreasonable so a local-ish watchmaker (Michlmayr, Norwich) serviced it and i think they did a cracking job. Keeps better time than it ever did and the sympathetic light polish has really bought it back to life.

Whilst the DJ was away, I added a Submariner and Explorer 2 to my collection and in December bought a new Black Bay Black.

After now wearing 40-41mm watches for the most of 2015, I found my DJ has had little wrist time after it came back.

At first I thought I was just getting used to larger case sizes and that was the reason that I wasn't wearing it so much.

But then I noticed how the dial had become very creamy coloured - especially when you look at the date wheel - which is still pure white. I think this maybe has put me off wearing it a little. I just looks a bit.... odd.

What do you guys think?

Do I take the view that a vintage creamy dial is the business, I should be appreciative of the 25 years we've had together and wear it more?

Or do I think about changing the dial to a new, bright white one that I'd be more comfortable with and therefore wear the watch more?

I really like the patina and wouldn't change it. Keep it the way it is you may grow to like it as it may remind you the length of time you had it.

That dial looks sweet, would not change it i were you! But if you decide to do it will be like $600 plus labor (thats what RSC charged for a new dial on my DJ) and they would keep the older one

ha ha! it's a 'greeting' card my mother bought back from a trip to New Zealand. We thought it was funny, and very 'cat' like so we put it in a frame

I wouldn't change it either, but thought this was an important comment--Rolex would keep the old dial if RSC swaps it out.

As been said by some in the know here, the dial is the $$$ on vintage watches. It looks great and would be a shame to swap that creamy for a new dial. Please keep that old girl as is, she looks beautiful!

As you can tell from the previous replies PATINA is a good thing.

I also agree with you. 36mm in this day and age is too small for me.

Honestly many women consider a 36mm datejust a ladies watch now days.

This week I've tried to wear the black bay all week. Although I love, love the dial, on a very small wrist it looks very thick and I've struggled to fall in love with it but I am getting there.

Exp 2 is my favourite and I try to save it for weekends :)
