Over-winding a vintage Tudor hand-wind?
As the title suggests, is it possible to over-wind a mechanical Tudor watch circa 40's...(with a shield symbol with rose in the centre). I have been to look at one for sale; it has been wound about 20 times, but only runs for a couple of minutes...I have read that Rolex movements cannot be over-wound, but not whether the same applies to Tudors, especially vintage models.
Thanks in advance :-) |

Yes, it can be overwound. I have similar vintage Tudor to the one you were looking at, and it runs for about 36 hours on a full wind (about 20 turns).

"Overwound" is really a misnomer. Either it doesn't run because it needs to be desperately serviced, or the mainspring has broken. In the case of this watch, it appears to need servicing.

20 times should power up a manual wind watch for many hours. If this one only runs for a few minutes it needs attention. I would be concerned about parts availability on a 75 year old watch.
