yeah,he probably just sent the matte dial because he wanted you to throw it away.
If you want you can just send it to me and I will dispose of it safely so none of the radio-active materials contaminate anything.lol. |

![]() ![]() ![]() Seriously, once you wear a vintage piece you will be hooked. Modern pieces are nice, but vintage pieces are so much more fun IMO, warning collecting vintage pieces is a steep & slippery slope! ~Scott |

yes, they are. the watch actualy was is brothers he passed away in late 1960, the watch my grandmother had and put it away in the bank safty deposite box, she passed away in 2006 and finally after 2 years my father and his 6 sibblings finally spilt up the estate. i havent talked to my dad in 12 years, my sister and him keep in close contact, and i think after all these years, he is making up for old times, not bad though, uh.

Sorry to hear about your grandfather and best of luck with your father. I am sure that nothing would have made your grandfather happier than to know that you are wearing and enjoying his watch and his legacy lives on.

Scott has summed it up nicely. What you have is not only a very valuable Rolex from a time we will never see again, but an heirloom piece that is priceless. Were it with pride and the best of memories. ![]() ![]() |

Yes, it is not your "run of the mill" vintage watch. Hang on to that one! If you are looking to get it restored, do a search for Bob Ridley, he is a watchmaker in Texas and will restore your watch back to what it once was. He basically takes over where the RSC's stop. Do not ever change out the dial and hands on that watch, keep it original as possible.

VERY nice story....
....be CERTAIN to wear the watch periodically, not only for the memories, but to keep the oils from coagulating or drying out. Actually, a SERVICE would be great, as the newer and better oils would prevent anything from happening.
WEAR IT!!!!! ![]() Stan. ![]() |
