new datejust 41 vs older datejust 2?

Hello,
I'm new to the forum and was wondering if anyone has any information about the newly introduced date-just 41 model? I'm thinking of purchasing the date-just 2 but wondering if this model is going to be phased out in the near future? I see the new model has the improved movement and jubilee bracelet option but still like the oyster bracelet and the dial options of the 2. Any feedback would be much appreciated! I'm thinking about purchasing in the next few months.
Thanks for your help,
Dave

The new model is only offered in steel and gold, so I assume the older alternatives are still on offer in stainless steel with the original bracelet. The Datejust is a big seller, it won't be restricted to the versions offered at Basel.
Best idea is to follow your heart, and buy what you like, They are all exceptional watches. In that sense there is no 'wrong' choice.

I'm thinking oyster bracelet two tone and champagne dial with diamonds on the markers. I'm not sure I'm into the jubilee bracelet but I definitely want the 41 mil size! I feel it's got such a nice wrist presence. I own two other Rolex now a GMT master Pepsi and a two tone blue submariner which I love but want a watch for dressier occasions. Feel the sports watches don't look as good with suits and ties etc.

Ultimately, all models will be phased out or modified. It seems to run every 6 years or so. If you are buying a Rolex for keeps, at some point it will be replaced/upgraded/changed. You may not like the new models as much as what is available to you today.

When a watch sings to you and fits your needs, buy it.

People who flip watches may see it differently. My $.02.

I appreciate the advice! I'm in agreement. I will buy and hold onto this watch for many years and wear it and enjoy it so I guess who cares at that point if its discontinued or not.

I would go with the datejust ii, but that's only my preference. Even after having the date41 announced, i went and got a datejust ii. IMHO it looks better and the dials are better as well. I got the datejust ii TT black roman dial, trying giving a look, for me i think it looks amazing :)

Congrats! Gorgeous watch. Funny but after much deliberation that's the exact watch I just decided on. Use it well. Hoping to get mine early next week.
Was considering champagne dial with stick markers but thought this was so elegant and classy! Great sweater and blazer/suit watch.

The biggest cosmetic difference is the number of flutes on the bezel.

The date just 2 will be phased out. Depends on wrist size. If bigger wrist ID go datejust 2

I have the DJII, I like it quite a bit but i have the WG/Fluted Bezel version and it screams for a jubilee bracelet that was sadly never offered.

In response to one of the OP's questions, I can't believe that the DJ2 will be around post-Basel 2017. I just can't see Rolex having a DJ1 (36), a DJ41, and a DJ2. Seems clumsy to me, even though that is the current state of play. YMMV.

Since you want a two tone version, wait until the 41 comes out, it is available on the oyster and jubilee. Buy which one sings to you the most...

I really don't like the DJ2. I've thought the proportions were off since it was first introduced. I haven't looked at a 41 up close, but I doubt it could be any worse.

I placed my order in 116334, Roman Dial fluted bezel with blue dial. It's DJ II, DJ 41 will receive some tweaks but I didn't wanna wait until my dial / bezel combo is available with this new DJ 41

Hi All,

So I just pulled the trigger yesterday and bought my first Rolex since 1992 long time right. I purchased a date-just 2 gold and stainless with black dial and gold Romans I'm very excited! Just curious if anyone thinks this model will be discontinued in the near future now that they've introduced the new date-just with the updated movement etc. Any thoughts?

Yes I think the DJ2 will gradually be replaced by the DJ41, altho why they didn't go for 40mm is strange, unless feedback on the DD40s was that it wore too small with the reduced bezel as well, which I admit was my and many others initially reaction.

I considered waiting for the new 41 but after looking at the bracelet, dial and bezel combinations I didn't really see anything I liked so decided to pull trigger on the date-just 2. I guess they will at some point discontinue this watch but in my mind it's sill a classic looking model and will always look great!
