Ugh...So close!
Hello TRF! I'm new to these forums, however I read them on a daily basis. After much consideration, I have finally purchased a beautiful rolex I can call my own. I won't reveal what it is yet, but once it arrives I'll definitely posts pics.
I bought this watch off ebay(!). I know its slightly taboo to buy Rolexes off ebay but it's a trusted seller. It is completely new, still has plastic stickers on it. A little backstory: I'm 17 years old and have always loved fine things. I never, in a million years, thought I would be able to afford a Rolex on my own. I worked very hard for this. This is not only my first rolex, but my first WATCH. I have never worn a watch in my life. I would like to have this watch for the rest of my life and appreciate every scratch and dent on it. The rolex is literally a few miles from my house, just sitting in a UPS facility. It should arrive tomorrow. It is very painful to wait even a day for it, and I'm so excited I had to share. One more thing that will hopefully make you all appreciate your rolexes a little more. To the average person, like my friends and family, rolexes are a thing of God-like status. They are the best of the best, and having one is absolutely amazing. They dont know about patek or AP. Rolex is the absolute best and one of the finest things on the planet. Sorry for the long post and I'm happy to be a part of the rolex club! |

Congrats and welcome! When I was 17, Rolex wasn't even on the radar. Good for you. Hopefully you hold onto it. It will mean that much more. It will see you through the rest of high school and through college and beyond. Kind of cool it will be along for the ride through that time in your life. We all cant say that.

That's so exciting! I'm 22, and I'm about to seal the deal on my first Rolex as well. I am the only person among my friends who will have a Rolex that was actually earned and paid for by the wearer. Nothing wrong with receiving a Rolex as a gift, but when you're this young, it is somehow more powerful, IMHO, to earn it yourself. Plus the friends I know who have one are pretty spoiled :P Wear yours proudly! Let it serve as a reminder of your hard work of the past and a motivator for hard work and success to come in the future! |

Good on you. I wish I had been interested in Rolexes when I was 17... All that money wasted on girls and motorcycles. Sigh.

Congratulations Alec, I wish that i would have put my hard earned money toward a Rolex purchase when I was your age, girls, motorcycles and cars were the grails back then. The fact that this watch will be with you for all of your life adventures makes it all the sweeter.
A warm TRF welcome to you and don't forget those pictures!

At 17 probably only 1% of what I purchased still remains. You're very wise to put it towards a luxury timepiece because you know what it signifies to you.
Can't wait to see it! Advanced congrats |

Congratulations to the OP. I bought my first Rolex at 22...August 1986. I paid £1600 for a BNIB TT Sub, and still own and love that watch today.

If at 17 you are chasing Rolex watches, I suggest you reconsider the path of a Police Officer. Save money, invest in education - higher income will afford you the ability to enjoy luxury items like a Rolex.
Be aware, you are young, there are many expenses ahead. The opportunity cost of putting all your eggs on your wrist could be very costly. Consider traveling abroad, going to a higher end university and graduate program, maybe even medical school. Having a Rolex is great, but make sure you are not sacrificing major things or digging a financial hole for yourself. Congrats either way, and welcome to a very expensive hobby. |

Got my first Rolex at 18...now 21 and flipped a couple of times and currently wear a hulk. Any word of advice I can give is DO NOT sell the watch. I regret selling my first which was a white roman dial datejust. Pure classic and perfect to pass down to a future kid one day. Congrats and keep working hard! Don't listen to the haters for being a young Rolex owner.

Congrats! When I was your age and working at In-n-Out Burgers, I blew most of my savings on a car (and mostly performance parts) that depreciated. You made a great decision in purchasing a fine timepiece. At least you can still recuperate most of the cost if need be.

Life changes with growing commitments, my advice is only to make sure that these monies could not be invested in a better activity or way. Money will be made, but the opportunity to spend a month in an exotic place for example quickly evaporate as life gets more complicated. He is 17, that is High School age. Not even college! |
