Time Travel - Rolex Purchase

Guys, here is the question:

If you could go back in time, to any year back to 1950, just to buy One Rolex, what date would you choose to buy what specific Rolex from the AD? After this purchase, you will come back to the present day.

So again, this is the rule...

Just time travel for a moment, any year from 2016 back to 1950, to buy One Rolex, and then back to Today.

I'll start, and I'm not greedy, I'd just go back to 2009 and buy one of the last GMT Master II 16710A brand new from the AD.

So, for you, would it be...
a wanted watch from your birth year?
a discontinued dial?
a now collectible watch?

If I could go back in time, I'd buy a bakelight bezel gmt and lock it in a air tight security deposit box and sell it today as unworn.

My mind already hurts from the big decision on Black vs. White Daytona C, this riddle is going to make me pop.

Time travels must be the most recurring day dream for a WIS
Ok, I'll play: I'll go back to 1950 and get a 8171 or 6062 with star markers. The 8171 has already been sitting and gathering dust in the AD for a year so I'll get it with a good discount.

Probably this one. I think its the first chronograph Rolex ever made. It might be against the rules as it was made in the 1940's, I think. Probably worth 300k or so. I mean the ones that go for the most belong to famous people but that really seemed to break the rules since you cant technically get that from a Rolex AD.

If we are just talking about buying any Rolex from history that we like the most, it would probably be the first Pepsi GMT from the 50's. Kind of funny that the 6542 goes for around the same price as a new white gold BLRO does.

Your first rule should have been that you couldn't come back and profit from it. Otherwise I'd just go back, buy whichever watch is most valuable present day, sell it and spend the millions(s) buying hundreds of whatever other watches I wanted (from any year mind you!).

I would go back to 1945 and get a 4062 Chrono. I have casually been looking for one, but also wanting a YG Sub makes it harder to find 2 pieces.

I'd get a birth year Sea Dweller...which I believe would be a double red. Then wear it as a regular in the rotation.

I'd go to this photo shoot and offer PN $1k for his watch if I could photograph him scratching his signature on the back with an awl.

I think I've said this before. In the mid 90s I was a poor university student. Doing heaps of research. Writing lots of papers. Using the computers in the library. I worked all kinds of jobs to save money for a computer. I wanted a watch too. A Rolex Pepsi GMT. It was $3,100 at the local AD.

But being the "responsible" student I was, I got on the phone to Dell and ordered the latest and greatest Lattitude Laptop.
133 Mhz processor
810 MB hard drive
8X CD ROM
16MB RAM
12.1 inch active matrix screen
28.8 bps internal modem

That cost me $3,850.

I got 3 good years out of that computer.

Does anybody feel like throwing up?

Worst decision ever. If I could go back in time...I would still be wearing that GMT and I could have blown the remaining cash on fast women and slow horses.

I have a Pepsi GMT today, to remind me to be wiser in my decision making.

This made me chuckle... Hindsight always 20/20, right??

To the OP if I could go back in time there are so many other things that I'd rather do than buy a wristwatch!

To oblige though, to wear I'd likely grab a 6538 4-liner sub with red triangle and wear it as a part of the rotation! If I could sell it, it would definitely be an "RCO" 6239 😍

GMT Master 6542 with a white dial. I'd seal it in an air-tight container filled with desiccant I'd change out every 6 months.

I don't think I'd be able to buy it from an AD, however I would definitely offer a wad of cash to the first PanAm exec I see with one.

Josh, let me tell you: that's a beauty, I think you can probably get a NOS in 1950

Watches become more elegant with time (but Rolex didn't think so with the DDII)

Good idea Bill, I'd have to go back to 1979. In that case, I'd still get a GMT!

Beautiful watch, and it's only 100k+ usd today... and in pretty bad shape.

I know what you mean that there are many other things you'd rather do, but you can't change the future from the past, and you shouldn't interfere with it. Emmett Lathrop "Doc" Brown, Ph.D. made the rules

I know it's out of the parameters but a 1942 Rolex Chronograph wouldn't suck. Any of the other watches on the list of the link wouldn't suck either. http://www.therichest.com/luxury/mos...olex/?view=all

A masterpiece and I would do the same ...
