Guidance for the first rolex purchase

Hello Everyone,

This is my first post. I am planning to buy the Rolex Sub Date with Black Dial. I read through a lot of post on the forum to get myself well aware with all the information surrounding the purchase. I went to the AD to negotiate on the price but to my bad luck, they said that the price is not negotiable as the watch is in high demand. I need to hear from the community how should I plan to get my first Rolex.

Cheers,
coolpintu

P.S - I am from Canada

Do you want to get brand new, bought at an AD? If so, definitely shop around. Avoid chain-type stores, and you will eventually find one willing to entertain a discount. It may not be much, but if you don't ask, the answer will always be "No." (And there is no harm in asking for a discount either.)

Otherwise, I would highly recommend a trusted seller here on TRF.

I am from Canada. Call other AD in canada and come across as polite, knowledgeable, and ready to buy. Say your ready to pay in full right now even tho you may have to wait a month - 6 weeks for the next shipment. Ideally you would visit the AD in person as some may be reluctant to discount over the phone. Someone will give you tax off (10-15%) i. I promise.

Thank you everyone for helping me out. I did went to the AD in person to show how serious I am and did all the things mentioned in the forum but the reply was that since the watch is in high demand, there is no discount on it. :( I am exploring the links mentioned above and also trying to dig deep into the forum for other trusted sellers. Now, I realize the madness with watches. The hype is very real

How many ADs? You need to go to a few to feel them out. Even ones under the same company name, but at different locations will approach discounts differently.

Just be patient. The Submariner, while popular, is not necessarily in that short supply. As noted above, keep trying different dealers, and eventually one will offer a discount to make the sale.

i don't think i've ever seen subs be in any kind of short supply, except the 5 digit ones when they were being phased out for the six digits.

i've had a harder time getting my hands on yachtmasters and daytonas to try on. even the explorer 1 can be a little rarer, in my experience. subs, there's always a wide variety available and in quantity too

Grey market if you want to buy new. Pay with a credit card. No bank wires! I've heard good things about Alan Furman.

Why is this? A lot only accept bank wire or Paypal and if you choose Paypal you have to pay more to cover their fees.

Do a search in the for sale forum for CANADA.
You'll find your watch there.

Because once you wire the money, it is gone. Credit cards offer the buyer (you) protection in the event the transaction does not go as well as expected.

It must be the human condition to focus on "MSRP", List Price, "Suggested Selling Price". Etc......from both the perspectives of buyer and seller.

I'm in manufacturing sales and many times, regardless of the price, the end user wants a discount.
They can't sleep at night otherwise, or it challenges their ego if they don't feel like they've "won".
Many sales people simply inflate the total package of deliverables then discount with the buyer's own money.

I don't blame dealers for discounting when cash flow issues are at hand, but I also respect Rolex and its sales channels for NOT moving on the price.

Remember....no one is making you buy something, so only you can decide if you need it that badly.

Gotcha, when I purchased mine (DavidSW) I went with the bank wire. However, If I had any doubts about the seller I wouldn't have bought it in the first place.

Try the sellers forum on Canwatchco. If Bobby has one you can buy with confidence and his prices are taxes in.
