Funny how things grow on you...
I thought the 5711 was the premier Nautilus but the more and more I see the 5712 the more I can't stop thinking about it. The shades of blue in different angles mixed with the red and MP get me more each time I see one. Some of the pics on Instagram are phenomenal. Those who has followed my posts know that I'm a huge 5167 fan, however I might have to make the 5712 my first Patek. I realize in the end I'll get both but know I won't be completely satisfied should I spring for the aqua first.
Arnaud, you're spot on buddy. You preach that it grows on you and couldn't be more right. |

I can't agree more.
While 5711 is a very beautiful piece on its own, there are many more things to appreciate on the 5712, including the very useful power reserve and moonphase. The tinge of red on the 5712-1a gives it a nice contrast with the blue background, giving it a subtle yet sporty appeal. Last but not least, the micro rotor movement is elegant and gorgeous.... |

The 5711 (or 3700) will always be the classic Nautilus piece...but which one is "the greatest" is up for discussion at all times IMHO. Until they do a perpetual in the lineup anyways...

The 240 movement is also a nice feature of the 5712!

Best part about the 5712 is the movement followed by not having to look at the non matching date wheel.

I can relate. I have a 5711 and I'm starting to fall for the 5712 for the same reasons that you mentioned. Also, you won't have to worry about the sticking date issue with the 5712.

+1. I completely forgot that some experienced the sticking date issue. Heard that with the aqua as well.

Stopped by the local AD today for a visit and he had a couple 5167s and a white 5711. I do like that white much more than I thought I would. You don't necessarily get the diff grey/blue at diff angles like the blue dial but something about the white tones that really pop out. Something I'd consider down the road definitely as I think there's always a place for white in a collection

awesome foursome with my AP ceramic diver, sure the 5711 and 5712 are very very alike, and so what, they are basically my two favorite SS watches, of course if ever for the 40th they introduce a blue dial Naut, for example a 5726, I could be tempted to get it instead of the 5711, anyways we will see, I much prefer the 5712 but as a daily the 5711 should be great with it's much more readable date, I sometimes had a hard time to read the date on the 5712 |

That's a great one of the 5712. Looks much more blue. I think the layout of the dial of the 5712 that screams Patek where the 5711 doesn't. Both are beautiful though. The bit of red and the moonphase is a game changer

I did the same thing... Wanted the 5711 and had zero interest in the chaotic dial of the 5712... However, curiosity got to me and I started researching the 5712 .... I now own a 5712..

I've heard it said before, and I'll say it again. If part of a collection including Pateks, get the 5711. If not, get the 5712.
