Theoretial do-over opportunity
Just a little fun for today. Assume the following: you were out and weren't wearing a watch (already pure fiction for TRF members); upon your return home your house was burglarized and your watches were stolen. They were insured and you were paid the full current replacement value. If you were going to rebuild your collection, what would you do? Further condition: you can take some liberty in obtaining reasonable expected discounts, but no adding cash.
My current higher-end trio are: 16613 Bluesy, 16570 Noir and 2552.80 Seamaster Professional. Total insured value $16,750. I would either replace with: 16613 Bluesy, 16570 Noir & Omega Speedmaster (and some leftover cash) OR Discounted 116713 GMT2C, used 14060m and used 116233 DJ.

Well, I bought a new sub and GMT IIc.
I'd again buy a new GMT IIc and get a used sub with RBR.

It depends.... did they take my wife? Then I'd go all out and get the WG Daytona with the Meteroite Dial.

Probably go Expy II instead of DJ.

Current trio listed below. I'd be tempted to get the same ones, just get a little older Sub with lug holes. Or, I might get an Expy Noir and a PP.
Hmmm...makes you think. Great post!!

I'd get an alarm system first, then I'd replace my GMT Master II 16710 on the grey
market. I really don't have a "collection" to replace, and I always wear my watch.

since I just did some reshuffling of the collection, I'd probably just buy the same watches - 116520 and 16610

For me, I would buy a new 16610 (SS Sub Date), 114270 (Explorer 1), 16710 (GMT II) and invest the rest of the $. This means that I would not have : TT Blue Sub, 116200 DJ, 14060 non-date Sub, and my Sea-Dweller.

I'd replace the Blue Sub and the Tudor Chronograph as quickly as I could. I also have an Air King, but I doubt I'd replace it with an exact duplicate. I am very happy with the AK, and it actually gets more wrist time than the others; but I'd get a SS DJ to replace it with. Not having the date is a real PITA.
I might not replace the Air King, but I won't be getting rid of it either. It was my first Rolex watch, and I've worn it happily for 18 years. It was also my first watch to last more than a year. I'm keeping it because (A) I'm sentimental about such things, and (B) I'm a packrat. Rawhyde |

I was gonna say, go down to Trader Joe's between Sears and Walmart there at San Antonio Shopping Center and buy some alcohol. Drink until you come to your senses!

I'd probably find a good second hand Day-Date. I'd get around 15k from the insurance, and this would be more than enough to pick one up with solid links.

You have to have been from around here. How else would you know there's a Trader Joes at the San Antonio Shopping Center?

Yeah I would. Even though I only have one. My wife would make out better. Both of our watches have apprasials form an AD and also have them insured. I bought her a pre-loved TT ladies DJ last year for less than half of what it would cost to replace it now at MSRP.
Then again maybe an LV with a black insert

Insurance could cover the value, but never the memories. Never the less, a couple modern-- a gmt IIc, 16610 LV, SS Daytona and the rest would go to vintage--probably a few upscale pieces.

This is a little too much reality since I experienced this exact situation a few years ago. It was Wed., Dec. 15th, I felt sick at work (probably my intuition directing me home), came home to discover I was locked out of my own home. Neigbors helped me break in, and much to my dismay, my DJ (SS WG bezel rose serti dial) and 2 TAG Heuers had been stolen. I replaced DJ with a TT DJ white diamond dial. Insurance repaid every penny. I immediately got an alarm system, my trusty and beloved rough-coated Jack Russell in my avatar (back-up alarm system) and hope to be the first female on my block to soon own an AK-47! Feel free to donate any unused K-bar knives. Cheers!

30 years in the Bay Area before leaving, still miss parts of it most every day. 25 years ago, I spent a lot of my hard-earned youth cash at the hobby shop that was there.

I think I would only replace one ( The Pam98). Would have a terrible time finding it though.
Picking up my Green Milly on saturday, so not sure about that one. Pocket the cash for the rest, again , partially as 2 of them would be near impossible to replace at reasonable prices.
