2 Watches for Any Scenario

Hi Everyone,

I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on which two time pieces you either own/or would want to own, that in combination can get you through any activity/occasion. My two would be my Rolex Submariner Date and G-Shock. Can't think of any event one of those two couldn't handle. My grail pair would be a Rolex Platona and Breitling Emergency. Thanks for your comments!

I like the idea of a G-Shock.....but I know I would never wear it.

I need 3, still trying to get to them all..

Zenith Elite Chrongraph - a watch when the sports watch just will not work. Nice dinner with the wife - important presentation at work. Pretty much for when the suit and/or tie go on.

Zenith El Primero Striking 10th - sport chronograph. Will handle most things except when gettting dirty.

Seiko SRP637K1 Min-Tuna Monster - a $350 watch for when it is time to get dirty or go swimming, hiking, etc. Come on, I know a Rolex Sub can dive to the deep dark depths but I would be a fool to take it with me.

This would be my ultimate 3 watch collection.

+ at some time I will probably add an Apple Watch - just because.

Key point - you could source this collection in a smart way and stay under $10,000. That's pretty good.

And seriously - 2 watches? If you are on this site you care about watches. Can you get by with just 2 pair of shoes, 2 suits, 2 ties, 2 cars, 2 homes, 2 planes...??? please...

A Patek perpetual calendar and a stainless steel Rolex Sub.
That should just about get you through any situation.

If I could only have two, I'd choose my 5990 and my black bay heritage on strap.

This is my pair for any scenario. I gave my 3 Casio G-Shocks, Tissot and other watches to my teenage son. He will get the SubC when he becomes a responsible adult.

Kinda off on a tangent, I'm 90% sure I saw Tom Hanks wear that G-shock in the film, Captain Philips. I happened to catch it on TV.

These aren't necessarily the two from my collection that I'd keep if I only could keep two, but they would cover the spectrum of events or activities from relatively formal to ultra casual/sport. Here are a couple of shots of both of them.

I would vote for an all black Submariner of your choice and a white gold day-date with a face style of your choice, both are understated elegance that have stood the test of time. That said, I do respect the G Shock as a reliable, accurate and durable watch when things get bumpy. Cheers!

PS: My current love though is the 2016 Explorer I which gets almost all my wrist time these days :-)

Really?

I'd feel foolish if I didn't . . .

These two pretty well cover it for me.

The perlon strap looks nice on the 114300 but I prefer the bracelet.

Suunto core is my everyday beater in military uniform and for workouts, 14060m is my weekend/occasional weeknight warrior. The core is a fantastic watch made in Finland with multiple instruments, and so comfortable you forget it's there. I find these two to be the perfect combination. Love em both

If I had to choose only 2 for every occasion :

1. Rolex 16710 gmt Pepsi late serial in unpolished condition. Perhaps modified with subC glide lock bracelet. This watch would be for daily wear.

2. Rolex 116500 , undecided on white or black dial. I am very surprised about this as initially I preferred the white dial by a large margin. This watch would be for the weekend and special occasions.

On the basis that a metal bracelet watch shouldn't be worn with a Dinner Jacket, the two from my collection to be kept would be the SD and the Reverso. All boxes ticked.

If funds were unlimited, change that for a Royal Oak 15202 and a Payek 5207.
