Thoughts please, New Rolex owner and enthusiast

Hi All. Having recently purchased my first Rolex, (in fact my first ever watch believe it or not). I have found myself becoming a little obsessed.delving deeper into this horological world I have become fascinated with all the different opinions, models of watch,knowledge and all the passion around this timeless brand and these beautiful watches. I just wanted dot get some opinions on a few things...

like i said i recently purchased a Rolex, its a Submariner 14060 circa 1994. Now the Submariner was always the watch i dreamed about owning, and i spent a lot of time reading and researching the watch before making my decision. Now, also living in NZ, the 2nd hand watch market here is very small so my options were limited... I couldn't decide on date/no date, 2 lines or 4 lines...vintage or new,ish... but ultimately i found an immaculate example of a 14060 , no box or papers (which may have been a mistake) but from a genuine watch enthusiast and a bloody nice guy to boot who gave me a good price i thought. I was over the moon with the watch ! my dream finally a reality.
But theres a few things I've since discovered. The model i bought isn't as collectable a model as i originally thought, it doesn't glow in the dark
( although when i bought it i thought the tritium was an attractive feature) and i must look at my watch 3-4 times a day and want the date. The watch i have also has a display back on it. I have the original case back, and i wanted to get the watch valued for insurance purposes , but Rolex won't touch it with the display back on. What are peoples thoughts towards display backs ?
Also to preserve the bracelet i have the watch on a nato strap, but have thought of getting an aftermarket steel strap ? does anyone have any input on this ? Is it total sacrilege to put an aftermarket bracelet on a Rolex ? should i not worry about scuffing the original bracelet as it can be polished out right ? do i get the watch serviced By an AD ? will they confiscate the display back or aftermarket strap ? I feel that the only way i will ease my concerns as to weather i bought the right watch in the first place is to buy a newer 16610 as well and have the pair :)

Its an expensive passion , but then you all know that ;)

Put the original bracelet back on and wear it if you want it on bracelet. Don't put it on an aftermarket bracelet. Also, NATOs are a fun and inexpensive way to mix up the look.

Collectible is in the eye of the beholder. You bought a fine watch. Wear it and enjoy it.

Hi! Enjoy the vintage 14060 whichever way makes you happiest. It is your watch and meant for your own use and appreciation. If you ever want your watch to be serviced by Rolex then simply return it back to stock condition before you hand or send it to them. Alternatively, you could always use an independent watchmaker. Something is only collectable when it has become collectable.

You have a great watch that will last you decades. Congrats. As for the lume, don't sweat it. No tritium watch from 1994 will still glow effectively. Part of the charm is the gradual patina the tritium develops over time.

In regard to the caseback, if you send it in for service just switch it out with the original before sending it in - if you are sending it to Rolex for service. If not, don't worry about it. And just for the ducks of it I'd have it pressure tested before taking it for a swim.

Am not a fan of display backs - you're wearing the watch, so what if you can see a piece of metal flipping around when you take it off at the end of the day?!?

However, do like bracelets

And not much use telling us all about your watch without any pics?

Enjoy the watch! And what are you saving the bracelet for? The next owner? You bought it, might as well enjoy it as it was designed.
