Trade or Not Trade: The Milgauss

Hello guys,

I'll need your opinion on this. In a casual conversation with a friend. He wanted to trade his mint Milgauss white for my Milgauss GV. The price will be follow Rolex used market price. Which means I might get back a little still. No one is trying to making money off another party. Both items are good and mint. Friend to friend fair trade.

Currently, I still love my GV. I find GV black dial can easy for dressy/casual but I see white Milgauss more casual. White Milgauss is an odd ball to me. GV I actually fall in love immediately and think white Milgauss is one of the most ugly Rolex watch at the time but 3 years after, I find it very attractive. For that reason, white Milgauss has a special spot in my heart.

Currently, I have to say, I love GV and White Milgauss equally but my friend want the GV. I am not planning to own two Milgauss, mainly, they are from the same era. For Submariner, I plan to own a vintage and a modern so it is a bit different. However, I am planning to buy a ExpII Polar in future. which, it is my main hesitation to trade with my friend.

Currently I own 3 Rolex.
1) DateJust 36 (late 70s)
2) Milgauss GV
3) Rolex Sub LVC

My future planning to add:
1) Explore II Polar (current)
2) GMT Master Pepsi (vintage)
3) Submariner 5512

With my current and future planning of Rolex collection. Would you do the trade?

I wouldn't do that trade. If your friend wants a GV just send him to one of our trusted sellers here.

The white is my least favorite milgauss, so I would keep the gv

I would keep the gv. The white just does not appeal to me.

I wouldn't own polar exp2 and white milgauss - so in this case nope. I will say with milgauss ugliest wins so white fits the bill. (In a good way)

I would keep the GV. I do recall some years ago, someone on the forum modified the white Milgauss with a green crystal... Could be the best of both worlds for you or your friend.

speaking from experience, the millie is tougher to sell than most modern rolex and since you're even considering this; you know you'll get rid of it sooner or later anyway.

i'd take the cash and the white one.

Don't do it! Keep the GV for sure, plus you mentioned you love this watch. Never cared for the white face Milgauss and I suspect your friend doesn't either, thus the preference to trade. No advantage to you and I believe you would regret it. Good Luck! Cheers!

I've had both and currently have the GV. I'll tell you this, IMO there's no comparison how much better the GV looks, you'll totally miss it! And now I'll tell you something that will really make you want to keep the GV....... The markers on the white dial are SALMON PINK, not orange! And as it ages, the markers become more salmon pink color.

Go for it the white Milgauss! It doesn't seem to be available anymore on the website. Could become a little rare in the future??

The markers are luminova dark orange. I have a colleague who has had his white Milgauss since 2010 and his markers are orange.

I would ignore everything else, and go with what I thought was nicer looking. Don't try to "fit" it into some hypothetical collection. Choosing the watch you don't like best, just because it "fits" into some collection better, makes no sense!

i would try to avoid doing business with friends.
Friendships are more important so id avoid any possibility of discomforts.

What happens if one watch suddenly needs service the next day/week ?

Think about it.

But if you still wanna trade the black GV ? then get the Z-Blue.

There are lots talk about White Milgauss might discontinue soon but I think the current 3 mil are successful and good variety lineup in the collection.

Keep the GV, that glass is special.

White EXP II > White Milgauss so just stay on your current path.
