Second Rolex
Good morning from NYC,
I humbly ask for advice on my next Rolex purchase as I've narrowed it down to two watches. Background: I purchased my first Rolex 6 years ago (can't believe it's been that long) - a SS Submariner date. It's has been on my wrist virtually every day and I love it. I narrowed it down to the two tone bluesy Sub or the two tone GMT. I can come up with reasons to get either one and reasons not to. This watch will become my primary watch and it will get beaten up going to job sites and desk diving. I am also looking to built a collection. Which watch would help that more.... |

I will go with gmt this time. The new white dial Daytona is a good choice too.

I'd go GMT for the extra complication. I also think it's the best looking TT Rolex.

There's something about the bluesy...I find the GMT bezel to be so busy...does it wear well with a suit?

Are you looking to build a watch collection or a collection of Subs? There is no wrong answer but for watch #2 as part of a growing collection I'd diversify complications before metals. Unless you want just Subs of course.
GMT is the only TT I'd consider. If I was dead set on a TT Sub I'd get the black dial version. I think it's a little more understated and more versatile with a suit. Good luck with your choice! And have fun trying them all on. |

Why would you only consider the TT GMT?
I would like to build a collection, however I have some basic parameters. The watch must have a date. This knocks out the Daytona and it needs to be more youthful and sporty not an older gentlemans watch (Datejust 2) obviously my opinion. The explorer 2 is too industrial (again my opinion)...am I missing something? |

I have two Subs; a Hulk and a two tone Bluesy. I'm hoping for a GMT Master II as my next Rolex. That said, if you're looking for a watch that you can 'beat around' and wear every day, etc., then I think it only fair to warn you of the PCL's on either of the watches. While I can't speak directly of the GMT (for I don't have one.....yet), I can say that the gold PCL's on the Bluesy pick up micro scratches without absolutely any effort whatsoever. If you're OCD about this sort of thing, it'll drive you crazy. If you're cool with it and regard it as no biggie, then you'll be fine with whichever watch you choose. Both are awesome in my book.

Certainly no rules in building a collection, so either would work. Personally would maybe lean to the GMT of those choices

I'd get the Bluesy and trade Subc for a SS GMTc.

Although a Sub is a Sub, the bluesy and the LN that you currently have are very different pieces. Get whatever you love the most, go with the heart, not the mind.
Personally I Would go with the GMT, but just because I love GMTs. |

Between the two, the GMT, although, personally, I'd go in a different direction. SS DJ, Explorer. They seem more suited to your intended use.

Seems its a 50/50 split
Exactly my issue. I need to try the GMT again. I do like the idea of another professional sport watch... |

I'd go with the GMT, personally.
A good case can be made for owning two iterations of the venerable Sub, but an equally good case can be made for diversifying a bit. The GMT is a versatile watch. On the other hand, if your choice will be an everyday work watch, you should go with the watch that has the complications that are most applicable to your needs.

IMO if you get the blue sub you will have an everyday wear and something to wear on special occasions, I'm on the fences weather I should get a black SS sub, GMT II, or sub Lv Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The bluesy all day- 1) it's sick ridick looking and 2) you already have a black dialed watch.
I actually quite like the GMT TT but own a tt blue sub. Personally, I can get overexposed to watches on here and in no time, different becomes more interesting. If it was all new to me again, that tt blue dial would draw me in just the same. |

Yep. That is exactly what I would do...took the words right out of my mouth, my friend.
Actually, I had that exact combo a few years ago, and got a LOT of mileage from these two great watches. The GMT in SS was a perfect travel watch. Many great trips and timezones crossed with that one. |
