Apart from the original being more rare....can't say it has a huuuuge attraction. Would you rather have zero chance at a P or get a P with some writing on the front? If you look at Bruno's macro on the diamond indices you can see how beautifully set they are with attention to detail. Gold dial (bit of a so what) but PP had to do something so as not to detract from the investment value of the current P owners

It is so lovely and the latest pictures are making me want one more.

If you want a 5711P then the 40th is your only option unless you pay a premium and get the original and very rare version on the used market. But then no diamonds which I'm loving.

A nice piece but for 100K it needs to be damn near perfect for Me. I don't care how subtle the embossed dates are because I can still see them in every real life pic so it would be an easy pass for myself but to each their own. I am very happy for the owners

Agreed. I guess it's the same with Salmon dials - each to their own and the true beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Can't see that many dollars for platinum and an artificially created "rarity."

I'd prefer a Patek or Lange chrono, but it's all in the eye of the beholder.

You make a great point. I only got mine because my friend Karl personally didn't care for Salmon color so he gave me the tip. Beauty is in the eye of the "beer holder" A bit off topic but at a Recent Hong Kong Auction via Hodinkee a WG Salmon Dial 3970 went for 459K and the same type 3970 in Rose with Silver Dial went for 200K less. In the words of Ben Clymer as to why it happened, "White metal, salmon dial. Simple as that. Patek collectors are gaga for this combination"

valid comments all round - I do like the 5711P 40th but defo prefer the original which I wish i had ordered when i had the chance.

WG and Salmon is defo a winning combination in terms of collectibility (eventhough it may not be the most versatile colour combination for everyday wear).

Having the SS version, its hard for me to justify getting the P at that price. If funds were unlimited I would have ordered one. :)

The dilemma for me is this worth a 5327 Blue dial with some change or....the 5575 all over again when I justified not getting one due to not being able to see the hands and then when I saw one couldn't actually get one at retail

Was about to be totally floored by those very high prices, yet then saw the article where it was "Eric Clapton's 3970G Sold For $459,000, While His 5004 Sold For Over $50,000 Less, And His 3970R For Almost $200,000 Less". We're talking timepieces owned by Eric, so that changes thing quite a bit. Think of it like a Rolex 'Paul Newman' Daytona at auction and the results versus one PLN actually wore. As a point of interest, normal 3970er silver dial seem to sell for for about $85k (actual sale price).

It is curious to see Slowhand dumping some of his Pateks, will see if my friends can find out why he's doing it and report back. Not like he needs the $, so it is curious.

For that kind of cash I prefer and went with a unique piece from Voutilainen, and if I was very rich and for me 100K was nothing special, I think I would try to get the original 5711P, even at a premium, I still prefer it much much more to the anniversary model
