Patek 5146g - White or Slate Gray
Hey Gang,
Just wanted to see which dial everyone thought looked better on the Patek 5146g (White Gold) version - White (Cream) or Slate Grey. Looking to purchase one in the next few weeks. Currently leaning towards the Slate Grey dial as it looks a little more modern or up to date (to me anyways). Thanks in advance for your comments! |

Do you have pix?
As it's your first post since 2013 and it means do much I thought you could spring for a couple?

I agree with Karl.
Would have loved have got the slate dial, but in the end went with the cream dial, due to the increase in legibility. That said I am contemplating selling/trading my two against a 5146P! Now position to be in

I prefer the grey, but both are great. Grey seems perfectly legible to me.

Thanks for the comments. None of the Dealers in Chicago have it in the Slate Gary Dial...only the white. Hence, I've never seen it in person. When I asked why not, the largest chain here in Chicago said because they havent had a request for the Slate Gray Dial from any customer since June of 2015...

Both are great , I had both . Cream has better legibility no question, and offers a nice contrast as well. Slate grey doesn't has the visibility that the cream dial offers but that doesn't mean that the visibility is bad either, you can read the time fine. I think the slate gives the watch a more modern look/ sleek and the cream gives the watch a more classic look.
So there is no better or worst , is just knowing what advantages are more important to you. Modern, good visibility, more monochromatic----Slate Classic, excellent visibility, more contrast ---- Cream Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks for all the pictures! The Platinum version shown in the picture with the pink shirt looks awesome but I thought that model has a different shade of Gray then the other versions..

You are correct. The platinum has a different dial color than the WG.

When i saw them side by side in the metal, i was convinced i would like the grey dial of the platinum watch better than the wg one.
Turns out it was the other way around and i much prefered the grey dial of the wg watch which i found more vibrant and more alive if that makes sense. |

Plus there's a ludicrous premium for platinum, as is usual in Swiss watches. |

Don't be that hard on your watch bro , I owned that watch for a couple of years and I enjoyed it a lot, actually I like it so much that I bought it again but in cream dial. I am just saying the weight and how the platinum feels on the wrist is unparalleled And yeah the Arabic numbers are not awful but the dial looks better without them

The ultimate in this line is the 5450P, not because it's platinum, and not because of the (arabic) numerals, but mostly because of the movement and the salmon dial. That's what I'd trade for. http://www.chrono24.co.uk/patekphili...-id5247742.htm |

For the avoidance of doubt, so do I.
But this meta-discussion about the platinum version of the 5146 is completely off-topic. The OP was asking about cream versus grey. If you prefer the grey, and believe that the platinum grey version is worth the huge premium over the gold version of the grey, then go for it. It's a bit like gold sub versus steel sub. |

Both have there own charm...
Slate is very beautiful in the sun light... White is so much easier to read time...
