Dead Sea with sub
Would you wear your submariner in the Dead Sea? It's so salty I'm worried about damage. Just cause you can, doesn't mean you should... thoughts?

Just wash it off after you get out of the water.

First off, Dead Sea is genius. So enjoy. As for your diver in the water, bring it, use it and rinse it after. Maybe put in a glass of water for a little while. Personally, I would leave the watch in the safe and enjoy the soak/swim, rub mud and salts all over (don't shave before) and put it back on for dinner. Enjoy the trip...

I agree with the previous post. It's a sub so I'm sure it could handle it...but I say this is one rare case where it's better to leave it in the safe. The Dead Sea is crazy salty; it actually feels almost oily when you're in it. And you'll want to get all muddy as well. I visited Jordan in 2013 wearing a Sinn U1 (my usual hiking / travelling / bombproof choice)...the only time I took it off was for the Dead Sea. Enjoy!

I really dislike when the advice is to not wear a watch when it's time to test its metal, as it were. It's a Sub. You could wear it in the Dead Sea for five years straight, even if it were boiling water, that had periodic volcanic eruptions. Truly.

I'm with BB, the water in the Dead Sea or any sea will not harm a Rolex or countless other watch brands.
I am more interested to know if the Sub floated.......? Seriously, these days, the seals on a well maintained watch are resistant to most chemicals that the average wearer will contact as well as all that killer steam in the shower, high pressure garden hoses, splashing your arms really fast while 3 feet under water, high up in the air in a Jumbo, swimming in the Dead Sea, etc. etc. Just relax and enjoy your watches.

Yes, the concentration of salt vs water is much higher in the Dead Sea. But guess what, when you are done swimming at your local beach, the water on your watch wil evaporate, leaving just as much salt residue on your watch (if not more). Is that a problem on a Rolex? The more interesting question indeed is if your Sub will float |

What's the deal about not shavings. I can only assume maybe the water would cause skin irritation to a fresh shaved face because of salt content

OP - 904L SS is used for industrial pickling solutions. The dead sea won't do anything to the steel. Modern seals are resilient in this environment. No worries, wear the watch. |

Wear it and feel strong. It's an indestructible Submariner not a Patek.

Lol your watch will be absolutely fine.
If you were going in everyday 3 years straight I'd shorten the service interval but in your case you're absolutely fine.

The dead sea has about 10x the salt content of your average ocean. They advise you to only go in 20 mins at a time and then go for a shower at the water side. No swallowing the water either, it can kill you. Any cut/rash will sting quite a bit.
Would I take my watch in? No. Would it be fine? I am sure it would. I left my cheap Swatch I took to Israel in a locker and enjoyed the mud and floating around.Quite the experience, have fun! |

I think Peter (Padi) lost a Sub in the Dead Sea if I'm not mistaken.
Maybe you'll see it floating around |

I took my Sub dipping in the Dead Sea many times, never had a problem, even when caked with salty mud. Now, those minor shaving cuts from earlier in the week however...those can be rather painful. But no issues with the Sub.
