When your Deepsea starts to look small !

I have developed a love of dive watches. My problem is that after wearing the Panerai or Omega, my Deepsea blue looks midsize on my wrist. Do you think if I buy a submariner the Deepsea will get its wrist presence back.

Sorry just cannot understand this big watch latest fad myself have 8 and half inch wrists and Sub and my 16600 are perfect size for me.

That submersible looks mint! I like the new blue second hand thinner ones. My wrist can't take a massive think watch it looks a bit lost.

One of my friends is a big tall guy and has enormous hands and wrists. He's the only person I know that could pull off a watch over 40mm without it looking over the top.
He wears a small, probably 30mm, and it looks weird just like a 43mm watch would look on my 7" wrist.

You could just keep re adjusting the brain and strap a sundial on then the PAM will look small as well...... You are right it all about your brains adjusting I have worn a 366mm DD for 12 months and just got a Daytona I think it looks huge but everyone else will say it is small.

In the past I used to complain about Rolex "small" 40mm sports watches like the Sub, SD, YM, Daytona etc. I've always preferred larger watches (PO2500 XL, SOH46, Seawolf and several other divers above 44mm).

For the last couple of years though, I've begun to think that these large watches look too big on my smallish wrist (6.9in / 17,5cm). I added a YM to my collection and don't find it small at all. My latest pick is the SD43, it sits very close to my absolute limit and I find it rather big although very wearable (tapered lugs help).

I've thought about flipping all my big divers bar one but haven't been capable because I feel like they're part of me, part of my life. I look at the pictures taken throughout these years and they bring back great memories, best years of my life actually. I still wear them in spite of their sizes and will probably be holding on to them.

I am 6"3 280. There was a time when I would ONLY wear huge watches. 44+


Then you seem to regulate after some time. Comfort becomes the leading factor.

Though I still have all my enormous heavy watches, Deep Sea, Panerai 352, etc...I'm REALLY happy in my 36-39 Explorer, an Explorer I, DD40 or a standard sub. I find myself less and less wearing the anchors.

No ice for me mate. And certainly no rapper, just a liking for dive watches. I am waiting on a green submariner to come in, as personally I think it's the best looking watch in the range. I am a big guy and can't carry off a watch below 39mm. They look lost on my wrist.

I don't find 40mm watches to small as I don't find 44-45mm watches to large..I have found my sweet spot is 42-43mm tbh.

As I have said before and it's already been mentioned, it's all about the brain re-adjusting to the size you have on at the time.

I have 7.5" wrists and imo think I can carry off any watch at that size. Admittedly some of the guys with much smaller wrists can't and don't want to try and I understand that.

I don't think 42-46mm watches are a fad at all and I wouldn't describe them as "rappers" watches.

Is calling these larger divers or watches the "latest fad" even appropriate anymore? I mean Omega launched the planet ocean in what, 2004-5? I don't think 12 years is new and calling larger watches a fad anymore. They're here to stay it seems.

Just buy the sub!!!

Do it, I used to moan about Rolex being to small but I now have a sub along with other stuff. My biggest watch is the 45.5mm PO you mention, and I can take one off and put the other one on and it takes me a few minutes to adjust again.

It really is conditioning your mind to it, that's all. I wasn't a Rolex guy for many years, I actually loved Breitling watches. Since buying two Rolex I can't ever see me buying another Breitling. I flipped one and kept the Navitimer which is the smaller version not the larger sizes they now do. 41mm is it ??

I also have a Bremont 43mm which works great for me, if only Rolex did a 43mm watch

"Perfect" is in the eye of the beholder. I happen to think 40mm is a sweet spot and therefore also perfect FOR ME.

There was a time when 34mm would be considered huge, later on 39mm "jumbo"! These days 39mm-40mm is considered to be classic. Not sure how the rise of bigger watches could be a "fad".

You should start with the DSSD.

There is a rule of thumb, if the lug to lug lengh of your watch does not surpass the the width of your wrist it is fine.

Now, I its true that some watches got lately too large with no reason at all, like the DD at 40 or Panerai or even IWC Portuguese (and often look disproportianet Hight/diameter).

But I consider that if the watch has a purpose justifying its large size itis ok by me (eg. Pilot watches like Zenith Doublematic, or DSSD ).

I have a 6.25 inch wrist and I wear a 45 mil Zenith doublematic daily (it does not look rediculous due to very short lugs so it is a real 50mm lug to lug) otherwise how would you stick in its dial a big date, a chrono, a worldtimer and an alarm.
I think size must serve a technical purpose and as long as the rule of thumb of lug lenth/Wrist width is valid it is ok for me.
