Trading Deepsea Sea Dweller for Submariner No date?

Hi all!

I'm new here. Figuring out that this is the place to ask all Rolex related questions here's mine.... Has anyone ever traded down Rolex models?

Context:
I was new to the whole watch scene when I first got my Deepsea Sea Dweller as a grad gift (2012-2013 black face), and so I had a thing for big 'chunky' oversized watches at the time (wore a lot of G-Shocks).
Anyways, I don't wear it often and it is somewhat top heavy. I can really only wear it for short periods of time before it feels like I have a brick on my wrist.

The No-Date Sub is catching my attention and appears a lot more versatile than the DSSD. I am wondering if I can trade the DSSD for a No-Date Sub at Rolex ADs or boutiques (I understand trading up and paying the difference, but what about trading down for models that are worth less than the one I own)?

Any help, tips, past experiences are welcome

Contact DavidSW or Tony or Patrick right here on TRF and I'm sure you will work out a deal that is beneficial to everyone.
Way better deal then going to an AD

I would contact DavidSW. It will most likely be a better deal than any AD

Yes, I've gone from large to smaller and back to large again, since I've been bitten by the Rolex (and overall) watch collecting bug about 6 years back. Your eyes will quickly adjust to the Sub but hang on to that DSSD for a bit as you may switch back. I've maintained the DSSD I owned briefly about 3 years ago was the most comfortable watch I've ever worn, along with my previously owned Breitling 01 Chronomat. I also suspect we aren't the only ones on this forum to have a tough time settling on size either. Many will say "don't overthink it" but when thousands of $$ are involved, it can get a bit frustrating sometimes. For perspective, I just bought a new D-blue from DavidSW ( haven't even sized it yet) so I'll be switching back to the larger. Go figure! Good luck. Sláinte!

A DSSD to a 114060 is not trading down.

Trading out of used DSSD into New ND with a TD will be about $1k in your favor.

On the note of the DSSD not being comfy, have you tried removing the drivers Extension? Before I did that, it wasn't that comfy. Removing it made all the difference in the world (see numerous threads on the topic). If you haven't done that yet, try it for a week or two and see how it feels. If you still don't like the feeling of it, then flip it.

Yes most guys I know with the Deepsea seem to be (85 kilo plus),,know what you mean about weight.

I can play golf with my GMT, but the Deepsea no chance,,end up hitting the ball with a hook because I get weight on my right side

Sub no date - I wouldn't think of it as trading down. The Sub No date is one if the best Rolex watches of all time and very hard to get hold now in and around London.

Could you sell your DSSD and buy a Sub ND cash?

Or, as the other guys mention use DavidSW

Try and see if you can work with one of the trusted sellers here. (Your location says Richmond Hill... remember this is an international forum so Richmond Hill is not clear. If it is north of Toronto - my old home town - then perhaps won't be as easy to deal with some of the trusted sellers in U.S. due to duties etc.)

DSSD is a big watch. If it is not for you, it is not for you, no matter how much others say it is a great watch etc. etc. etc. Is trading a BMW M3 for a 335i a downgrade? For someone who goes to track days, yes. For someone who drives around town only? not necessarily. Some would consider an increase in practicality and comfort at the cost of giving up some unused performance as a worthwhile "upgrade"!

I would utilize a Trusted Seller and get the watch that you want. I have owned both the DSSD and the Submariner ND several times and the ND was the watch for me. Now the DSSD-Blue and the SD43 are a different story.

Everyone will have a different opinion.

If my kid traded in or sold a graduation present like the one you got. Rest assured that child would never get anything like that again.

it is substantial, yes, but thats whats it supposed to be.Cameron wore it on his 360000000 mile dive in the submarine in the Marianas..:):):)
i wear it all day, even in bed, and its comfy as heck.
and thats with the diver's extension..guess it snjust me.

like everyone mentioned, if it won;t work for you, better to sell it

Yup, agreed, try a RubberB or Everest if the DeepSea doesn't fit you comfortably right now. Although the No-date is a great watch, it is not in the same category to trade down.

Why is this "trading down"?

They are different watches. Buy what you like and want to wear.

Talk to one of our trusted sellers here on the forum. I would recommend DAVIDSW, OCROLEXGUY, or justrolexes

I have worked with all three and they are all great people that you can trust. Get quotes from three or more and see what works out best for you

If I read the OP's signature correctly he is in Canada (near Toronto). I realize DSW is a favourite here, but there are logistics with shipping watches back and forth across the imaginary line

OP: As to the original question ... if sizing the DSSD is the issue, perhaps try sourcing a half link for it. It made a world of difference for me on my Dblue.

It'll always be a big chunky watch, but I find that once sized properly, its a pleasure to wear. Just my

Being a graduation gift I'd try to keep the DSSD and save for the 114060.
Watches that mark a particular achievement or milestone are ofter missed if their flipped.
Just my 2 pennies..

I have to agree. As much as I like bracelets, a larger watch on a rubber dive strap is really a better option in and out of the water. Straps are also in style now with high end sport watches. Rolex is totally missing the trend again by not having a factory riubber dive strap for their sport models.

Thanks for response guys!

I got a decent quote from DavidSW, which sounded great IMO but I'm from Canada so the logistics aspect is an obstacle.
I also asked Watchfinder.ca , but DavidSW's quote seemed a lot better IMO

The rubber strap seems like a good option (http://rubberb.com/en/strap-rolex-de...ed-tang-series). Anyone ordered a strap from the link?

I've thought about it....

Ordered a black RubberB tang buckle for it since G'ED and others recommended it, not gonna lie I kind of like the look of it with RubberB.

I agree with TravisB's opinion, I'll save up for a 114060 purchase in the future since the 116660 is my grad gift.

Thanks guys!

If I had a DSSD, I too would trade down...in size, as I feel that the DSSD is to big and top heavy as well. That said, I would be more likely to choose either a Sub Date or SDC4K though!
