Advice - 36mm datejust for a guy

Hey fellow TRFers,
I usually don't ask for advice like this, but since it's a watch outside of my "comfort zone", I will...

Came across this in reputable pre-owned store , 36mm datejust w roulette date wheel. NOS , they are asking $5500. Forgot to write down ref# (oops!)

Questions: does it look too small on my 6.5-6.75 inch wrist, and does it look masculine enough (I realize especially the latter is very subjective)... thanks for your input!

Love that watch! There's nothing wrong with having varieties in your collection.

I have a 7-7/8" wrist and own a 116234 silver stick dial 36mm Datejust. I prefer the proportions of the watch and, for me, since it's a blingy watch, I prefer the smaller size. I also like the Super Jubilee bracelet.

It's up to you what's too big and too small. If it looks good to you or looks bad to you, that's all that matters. To be fair, "unsure" probably falls under the "looks bad" side of things. A watch should sing to you as soon as you put on it on or you'll never be fully happy with it.

Perfect

I had the same issue's when I purchased my DJ and I'm so glad I took the chance in the end.

I don't think I could personally get use to one but I have always worn 40mm Rolexes. That being said, any time I see one out in the wild on someone I never think it looks too small. I have a friend who is not tiny and has a gold date and steel date at 34mm and they look fine and plenty masculine.

As someone going through the same dilemma with the same wrist size, in my opinion if you question it now you will question it forever. Have you at least tried on a DJII, DJ41 to see how they compare? I was at a local reputable used dealer last week and tried on both side by side and I was shall I say underwhelmed by the 36. For reference though I'm used to wearing a LVc. Food for thought.

It looks to be appropriately sized given the design of the watch. The "stick the biggest possible watch on your wrist" thing has really warped people's perception of size.

Watch looks great and I don't think it looks small on your wrist at all. I have the same wrist size as you and I wear a 36mm regularly.

That's also one of the few dial variants I would think about owning on a modern DJ. That one, and the silver/black version are very very striking.

Awesome advice so far, thanks! I don't own any datejusts so am less familiar in pricing for references such as above, does $5500 seem about right for NOS?

Funny enough, am planning to try on the new DJ41 this week at my AD's Rolex Baselworld event.

While for my personal preference, in spite of my 6.5" wrist, has evolved to wearing 40 and up to 44mm, and don't enjoy wearing a 36 anymore, I think a 36 will never be too small for most men. Its a timeless (no pun intended) size. It's all about personal taste.

Full box and papers, or watch only? If it's full B&P, a beat up used example with no service history would cost at least $4500 on the forums. A grand for NOS versus that seems like a good deal to me. Some people don't value NOS like I do though.

It's not a rip off, but it's totally up to you.

I've worn my 60's ref 1002 that's 34mm and DD @ 36mm on my 8 in wrist. It'll all about appreciating the watch for what it is...... that is a fabulous ref!

Looks like perfect size for your wrist.
The proportions are much better then DJ41, DJ42.....

Don't know my wrist-size, but I'm 1,87m tall and love 36mm DJs.
I would try a 16200 or 16234 with the nicer case and brushes lugs (if you want saphire-crystal) or the more sexy 36mm with plexi and quickset date 16030,16014 or 16000.

So if you have a good feelin' about it...go for it....if not...then pass!

Here are my 1600 blue, 16014 black, 1603 white and 1600 black....
I think it's great size for men!

Looks good on you! Go for it, IMO.

I have a 16200 (older model dj, which has smaller lugs etc) and it just felt too small for me so I gave it to the Mrs. I have 7" wrist or so

Advice - 36mm datejust for a guy

My 116234 fits perfectly on my 6.75 inch wrist. It looks great on yours. $5500 seems fair for a NOS watch bought from a reputable dealer. Go for it!

I went white stick dial with roulette date wheel:

It's perfect. And I don't mean "it's not too small but slightly bigger would be better" -- I mean it's perfect. The bigger models, in imho, look clunky on anyone who is not Andre the Giant, though I'm in a minority in that view.
