Am I insane to want two of the same watch?

I have a 18038 Day-Date in Yellow Gold w/ President bracelet and black tapestry dial that I wear daily.

Have been eyeing the double-quickset 1990s platinum version with the silver dial (or is it rhodium?) and diamond markers. I'm not so in to the white gold - platinum has a subtly different look that I love.

My first-world dilemma beyond the expense of this endeavor is that I've never owned two fine watches simultaneously - so I'm not sure what my game plan would be in terms of deciding what to wear when.

Secondly, there are other things of some interest to me, like the Yachtmaster in gold. Any thoughts on all of this?

I have two AP offshores in different metals and dial colors. Other than that they are the same watch. They play nicely together.

I don't think it's insane at all. The two pieces you discussed, while both day date 36mm, are entirely different in terms of metal and dial configuration. I wouldn't hesitate, if that particular model is your favorite in terms of looks and comfort, to have more than one variation.

Similarly, I've got two 36mm DJ models, one SS and one two tone.

This also begs my next question - does the "glacier" dial have some sort of significant value? It seems to ask more than the silver/rhodium dials. Should I consider the glacier? I do like it.

Which ever one draws you most you should buy. Once you've decided then you should search for the best pricing!!!

Get what you love the most, although I would go glacier dial, beautiful and exclusive to the platinum models. Adds just that little more differentiation for you.

I would say this, however, take a look at the DD40. There are enough differences with the larger dial size and newer movement that I think adding one would be less...insane.

I think it does, it's a beautiful dial and unique to Platinum and almost its signifier, I wouldn't have any other on mine.

Realizing I'm in very good company here.

With regard to the suggestion for a 40 mm, I feel like I'd probably get used to that size and stop liking my 36. Plus, they are SO expensive! 36 works well on me.

I'm inclined toward the glacier, although I've never tried it on, so I may have to find it somewhere to see whether I prefer that to the rhodium.

Also trying to decide between the 118206 vs. the 18206. I understand the differentiation is primarily that the center links are hollow on the 18206 like on my 18038 and that this is important due to bracelet stretch. That said, the 18038 I have is in pretty good shape for its age. Does that platinum bracelet have the same concerns re stretch as the yellow gold?

The idea of the double-quick-set is also somewhat appealing, in any event ... but that is the 18206 as well, right?

It's not just a size difference (40mm vs 36mm) or bracelet stretch (5 vs 6 digit). The five digit references have the brushed lugs, which I really really prefer. The polished lugs just make for a too shiny watch IMO.

Those are different watches. When you buy two identical pieces you may want to mentally figure it all out. Have one for home one for work type thing.

I had not thought of doubling up, so I am going to put it straight out of my mind...'... A black dialed TOG would contrast nicely with my white faced, and thinking about it, I could triple up with the green TOG that was released on the Japanese market, just to complete the set!
