Replace BLRO With SD50?

Hello fellow WIS of TRF! With the recent addition of the PP5524 Pilot Watch, the PP5164 and BLRO have been receiving far less wrist time as my travel watch. It's to the point where I'm considering flipping my BLRO with the SD50 as my new daily wear. The 5164 wouldn't be a replaceable option since it's a gift from my significant other. In an effort to keep my number of watches to a minimum (there are a few others not pictured), I prefer not to add another watch with moving one. I especially don't feel the need for 3 watches with GMT functions. Now chronos are another story..

Would love to hear what your thoughts would be. Here are a few additional reasons for the swap to the SD50.

1) Prefer steel as a daily, along with the ceramic bezel of course. My 5711, although light and great as a beater, is quite a scratch magnet and I prefer to keep it minty.

2) Love the size of the SD50. To me, it's got a nice balance and presence I prefer over the SD4000 I once owned.

3) On the same token, I like how the new Sea Dweller wears fairly unnoticed, and is recognized by most as 'just another Sub'. Where I live, they are very popular.

4) Last of my reasons, is the possibility that the SD50 may go up in value, while the BLRO will probably remain stagnant for a while. It's last of my reasons because I buy all of my watches to wear, and enjoy the rotation. I don't own any safe queens, besides an RM which I like to wear for special occasions. It's also the reason I don't use my watch wonder anymore!

On the other hand, the BLRO is no doubt a beautiful, and reliable time piece. It's aged really well as my daily wear, virtually scratch free on the case. The rotating bezel is also great for checking multiple time zones.

Would enjoy hearing your reasons for either keeping the BLRO or flipping it for the SD50. Many thanks in advance!

You have a very nice collection and there is not a great watch in your line-up. I have the SD43 and it is currently my favorite watch and getting most of the wear in my collection. I really like the BLRO and it is on my bucket list for PM watches. Almost purchased one a few months ago but went with the WG Submariner instead. If the BLRO is not working then go for it. It can always be purchased again. You will really like the SD43. For me the size, fit, new bracelet and the red text would make it the last to go out of my collection.

Looking at your current collection - which is amazing by the way - I would not let any small potential gain/loss in value affect any decision you make. Like you have said you buy your watches to wear.

I personally would not do the trade. I can understand the logic of not wanting too many GMT's but I don't think I could let the BLRO go.

I would not do this.

Not a chance.

Why not 5164 in pic?! Also I would definitely do the trade you're speaking of. You need a sub or SD as a good 'beater' with all your other stuff. Sure the 5711 and ROO could handle it, but you don't want to scratch hen to pieces. Or what about an AP diver? I'd pick that over the SD50 and you def have the cash for it with selling the BLRO.

Although GMT is not my cup of tea, I won't replace BLRO with SD50. Just add SD50 to your collection!

I would rather keep the BLRO for daily wear. I see no chance whatsoever of the sd50 going up in value. I don't think it's any more under the radar than the BLRO either. I say all this being a huge fan of sea dwellers.

Amazing collection

Your collection is amazing. I would keep the BLRO for the splash of color it adds.

This lineup is top notch. I think you can add a ss beater. Would sell 5164 or blro for a ss Rolex, that's backwards

What's next - sell dato or 5524 for speedmaster hesalite

You've got a great collection and it needs to have a couple of PM Rolex in there, so I'd stay as you are. I'd rather trade the 5524 and maybe then get the 5522.

I wouldn't unload the BLRO. With all that firepower, just buy a Hulk or SD43.

Beautiful collection! BLRO is my favorite watch so you know my answer but the SD Is a great reference and I can see your reasoning behind the move.

Thank you all for your suggestions! The BLRO is staying. I'll be on the hunt for the SD43 to round out the collection and to share the load with my BLRO as a daily wear.

Wow. That's a real nice collection you got going. Flip the BLRO for whatever watch you want and it wouldn't be very noticeable with all the other stellar pieces you have.

Great decision, Tommy. I think you'll find the BLRO becomes a good travel watch where a Patek may not be suitable. At least for me, I use both Patek Travel Times and my gold GMTs.

Definitely, what the others said. Looks like you're keeping the BLRO, and an SD43 would really go well with everything else you have.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I was starting to miss the BLRO already. I guess downsizing will be put on hold for now..
