Will the speedmaster 60th anniversary become collectible?

Hey guys. I really like the speed master 60th trilogy re edition and I have the opportunity to purchase one with 4 weeks wait from the AD. I will have to make a large deposit and pay full price. Do you think this model will retain its value fairly well as a 3557LE? It seems to be fairly well received? Curious what you all think.

I think that Omega has put out a LE for something every year for the past couple of decades. Guessing which one may or may not become "collectible" would be just that..

The watch industry is going to experience a severe sales depression in a few years, only the iconic vintage pieces will retain value.

It's one of the best looking LE they have done, for sure. They've made so many that's hard to tell which will be collectible or not. Worst case scenario, you end up with really cool Speedy.

My suggestion with any watch is you buy it if you like the watch and try not to speculate. The watch is a reproduction of 2915 (original Speedmaster) from 1957 with the modernized 1861 movement....if you like the aesthetics or appreciate the history of Speedmasters, it's a great watch. Don't buy it trying to speculate if it'll hold value or go up in the future to save yourself possible headache.

Everybody has the chance to purchase at full price with a hefty deposit. I wouldn't call it an opportunity. Buy it if you love it and want to wear it.

I'm kind of hoping not. I am on the list at an AD, not an OB, for one and I plan to put it in my daily rotation. I would be hesitant to do that if it started appreciating in value because it became collectable like the Snoopy Speedy.

It's a lovely watch and one that respects the history of the Spedy legend. If you love it buy it and you'll have a great watch. Don't bank on collectability though. Omega issue to many LE's for that.

I am no expert but I would think �� NOT, the reason is high number of production, over 5000 is way too many. expect 30 to 40% off in gray market.

The fact that Omega went with 38mm is a deal sealer for me. Id like to pick one up but holding out that they will end up on the forums. Hopefully.

The price is too high in Canada so I passed. $10,350 with tax and shipping included. No thank you not for a basic speedmaster with some fake patina. I'll spend 4k on a FOIS for the same case.

If that's how you feel about the watch (clearly the rest of us that actually like the watch will disagree with you), would have been wise of you to never even look @ it IMO.

How is the case different? Aren't they both straight lug with no crown guard and similar size? I am interested.

You originally said the same case. I just said they were not the same case, but "very close in size". The 60th case is an exact (or as close as digital scanning can get) duplicate of the original CK2915 case. The FOIS case while similar in design and size is not and has slightly different dimensions.

Don't get me wrong. The FOIS is a very nice watch, and I like it a lot, but if for some reason my AD does not receive my 60th Speedy, I will buy a regular Pro Moonwatch with the Hesalite crystal instead.

Hard to tell which omega "limited editions" will really become collectibles since they make so many. If you like the watch, i'd say get it. But it won't retain the value like the original piece.

"We asked, and Omega told us the dimensions are slightly different. The caseback is of course different as well as the fact that it has the Hesalite crystal. The case diameter is 38.6mm and the case back has this nice ‘step’ like the old ones had. A very nice detail."

I have been trying to secure one in the UK; it appears to be heavily oversold already. Various European countries have thus far yielded the same result. This looks to be a very popular piece; if you are interested I would suggest trying to secure one whilst they are available from the dealers, as I believe it is likely to become collectible and hard to secure at the list price.

I think the 60th Anniversary Speedy appeals to collectors who appreciate watches that pay homage to classic icons, even reeditions. The question is how many of these watch collectors are out there for the 60th? I've read that the CK2915-1, the very first Speedmaster, is highly prized by Omega collectors, but priced beyond the financial means of most ($137,000), assuming that one could even be found. So it is possible that the 60th Speedy will be very desirable and collectable for them.

I like the 60th anniversary reissue as it fits my collection parameter and that it will be my first Speedy. Hoping to land one. I'm very hopeful now reading some comments here.

My other Target will be the moonwatch pro Hesalite version. You need to have it IMO.
