Various Incarnations of the GMT Pepsi
Whilst my Rolex collection is now complete, if I were to ever consider a 16710 does anyone have a definitive guide to this reference? I have searched but not had much luck.
What I'm looking for is something like: 19XX - 16710 released 19XX (or % Serial) - reference updated with solid end links Ditto - 3186 movement Ditto - Error stick dial (or whatever it's called) And so forth. I could be tempted into picking up a full set minter but not I'm not interested in paying premiums for updated movements and error dials and stuff but would prefer solid end links.

This should give you what you're looking for. I know, they make it hard to find through conventional internet searches and whatnot, with the obscure web URL and all.....

At least I now know I'd like a Z serial with a 3185 movement. Happy days! Thanks again

Come On Mr P ! How many times have you resisted temptation in Singapore huh ? Get real busy and search for a Pepsi Ref 16710-3186 Error Stick dial with a delightful potential for future price appreciation. Just pay the goddamn premium price and earn the bragging rights to own something no 0ne else has. Stay with me here and I'll tell you why.You know very well as I do what the Asian watch connoisseurs perspective on such collectible rare Rolex watches. Indeed I have read a credible article a few months back while researching , claiming that 16710-3186 production actually started somewhere towards the end the Z serial to the end of the next production M series or until Rolex ran out of cases or bezels! Apparently the overall 16710-3186 examples represented only about 2-5% of the total production (3186/3185) during this entire duration. So my guesstimate is that out of a total production number of approximately 700 000 units that came out of the factory , a very generous 5% GMT Master II 16710- 3186 would give you a very small fraction number of 35 000 examples available globally but I suspect the actual numbers are much much lower. I recall you always preferred the SS Ref 116520 Daytona, right ? WelI Mr P, surely you must know by now there are far fewer 16710-3186 in the wild than a SS Daytona God Save The Queen ! I don't really want or need the bragging rights of a 3186 with error stick dial. Why would I when I have a PAM 737 of which there are only 200 (and a 689 with only 300)? I did see this particular rare Pepsi reference in the UK last year and the dealer had already turned down £10,000 for it (about US$13,000) and I just wouldn't go there. If I take the plunge, I'll try and pick up the last of the 3185s with a full set. Maybe.................
