Batman, why more?
In a thread I will post later I have a very personal reason for wanting a batman, I never did before, but now I need to grab one up. I never realized the pricing was so much higher than a regular black gmt, why? the blue hand and dual color bezel? Limited amounts?

A touch of blue goes a long way! Worth it IMO. The LN is a great watch too though.
So what's this "personal reason"? |

It is about the same reason in the huge difference of resale value between DSSD-Deepblue and regular DSSD.

so, my best friend growing up, lived next door to me, best friends for 30 plus years. We just reconnected about 2 or 3 months ago and started hanging out a bit, he watched my dog while on vacation, my wife did his engagement photos. His dad was a captain and when I got a boat he took me out ect ect.
Anyways his mother died suddenly about 2 years ago. Since then I kept in better contact like we all do via text and whatever, we bought house close to each other by chance. He just bought a dog, always wanted one too. He got married about 2 months ago, I couldn't go because I was shooting a wedding myself but since then, again we grew closer. He would just drop by like we were 15 again and living next door. Well one day he asked me what watch I had on maybe a month ago. So for the past month we have been trying to get him into an AD to shop for a sub, but a batman caught his eye. Constant text back and forth on watches and countless conversations. Mostly about what watch and how to convince his wife it was only $2500 lol. Within the most recent conversation I found out his wife is due in April and it would be his first kid. He also has an autistic 10 year old step son. Well, he was supposed to come over tomorrow to help me get rid of a dishwasher with his truck and then we were gonna head to an AD. Long story short he texted me thursday after a quick gmt batman exchange he freed up his sunday and he could help out. I didn't respond until about 7:40 that night, my response was "best app ever, watch recon" didn't hear back but didn't think of it as he drive trucks and goes to sleep early. I was getting my daughter ready for school yesterday and my phone rang and it was my buddy bill I also grew up with, I saw him the week before and was admiring his gmt (which is why I my other buddy started looking at the batman when I mentioned bill had one) in a bagel shop on the way to a wedding (bill started a landscaping company with a push lawn more into a mulitmillion dollar lanscaping company, plus owns other stuff). Anyways, I thought he just wanted to say whats up, but I think you know where this is going. He said "stevie this isnt a good call, malta died in accident at work last night at 7:30." Total shock and I was actually in denial, which was weird being in denial and knowing your in it. Turns out his flatbed was overloaded and he lost control and was crushed by the huge forklift on the back, these are the big boy stuff used to build bridges, not the stuff in a warehouse. I looked back at my text and the last back and forth was about getting a batman, then finding out his wife is pregnant, then both of us realizing that he needed to buy watches for both of them and wait. Since he is now gone I want to buy the watch he wanted and when I find out the sex of the baby get something I would have recommended and gift it to them. It was the last thing that brought us together at such an odd time, him and I just getting close again, the baby, all of it and the entire relationship was respawned over talking watches. I want to look down on special occasions when I wear that watch and think about how funny and caring he was, and how I would like to be more like that. My wife got me my sub when I quit my job and went full time self employed, I have tried buying watches because I like them but I always sell. I want watches that hold meaning, and this one would. so thats my reason, sorry for being so wordy, the service is tomorrow and I would drop an anchor in the casket if it was going to open, but I don't believe it will be. steve |

Just goes to show, no one knows what'll happen tomorrow....live today. I'm sorry for your friend and I think it's great you're remembering him in certain ways. The BLNR shouldn't be difficult to buy at a slight discount to MSRP in the US via trusted sellers or find @ certain ADs across the US (no luck discounting anything there though). Best wishes.

Very sorry to hear about your friend. The BLNR would be a great tribute to him and your rekindled friendship. I would buy from an AD and tell them why and to have some Champagne on ice so you can toast to him as you collect the watch.

Blue is a popular color. If it were red it would be even more popular. If it were pink it would be less popular. Funny how these things work.

It cost a little bit more to manufacture it, apparently those bi-color ceramics are not easy to make and only appeared relatively recently. But most of the price difference is for the exclusivity. Similar philosophy as with PM watches, the cost of the metal itself is a fraction of the premium you have to pay to get one.

Keep an eye out for a LNIB or mint one here in the classifieds...probably your best bet price wise.
Sorry to hear about your friend. |

What a terrible turn of events. It hits close to home for me as my father passed while my mother was pregnant with me. One moment changes the lives of so many people.
Above all else do what you can to help his wife. She will have her hands full by the sounds of it. As for the watch, I would call a few out of state ADs and pay MSRP then ship.

Incredibly sorry to hear about your friend. Really puts life into perspective. The BLNR is a great watch, and one that will mean more to you than any other you'll have. My condolences.

Such a sad story. It's not as easy as finding a sub or an LN but the BLNR is out there and enough visits and requests at an AD and you should be able to get one. Rolex is the king of playing games with pricing. They price their models on demand more than they do their manufacturing costs. The BLNR has more demand so it's $500 more than the LN. I wore an LN for years and just swapped it for a BLNR and I'm happy with the change.
Good luck on the search. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Is Batman still a difficult watch to source from AD? Are AD's offering any discounts off list of $8950 ?

I'd contact Jared (Ponycar) as he's a NJ boy as well. If you dont have luck there, PM me as I know a couple do ADs who will ship you one and maybe a little discount to boot.
